h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Hi, I was looking over Cardea info on the internet and found your h2g2 profile mentioned because of the cardea keywords in it.
Your cryptic mention of meeting your girlfriend and the link to Blue and Black following intrigued me, so I clicked.
I read Blue and Black (coincidentally both my husband and I's favorite colors) and realized a similarity between you and Pearl, My Husband and I.
I met my husband in a chatroom, roleplaying. I was 17, he was 18, him being nine months older than me. He was from New Zealand, I was from California, USA. We talked and talked and talked, falling more and more in love all the while as we discussed life, politics, spirituality, the works, over a variety of messaging mediums (yahoo, msn messenger, icq, the archaic PHONE gasp) We talked for a year, finally near the end he was already saving to come over and meet me and my family. My mother loved him, my little brother idolized him, and my father... well lets just say tolerated him, unsure of this confident witty young man who was trying hard to get my father to open up with jokes and such. We spent every waking moment together during his stay, and once all night when fell asleep in the livingroom on the couch together during a movie, which had my father livid for two days. We would have been living much the same as you two when he went back, waiting to be together, dreaming of a starry future, but for the Bombings in NewYork. He flew in Sept 5th to stay for three weeks, and almost a week after he got here, the twin towers were attacked. The airports were closed and we waited anxiously as his time to fly back drew closer with no open airports and fear of government officials maybe thinking him to be an illegal immigrant if he missed his plane back. Sure enough, a few days before he was to leave, the airports reopened. We had already decided though, that we never wanted to be separated again, especially by 6,000 miles of water and a different hemisphere! He asked my father for my hand in marriage, my mother having been smitten with the idea already when we spoke to her about approaching my father with it, and so began our life together. We were married Sept 18th, 2001 in the local courthouse, just the paperwork side, setting a date for the big wedding ceremony to be in a year so we had time to save for everything. Well now it's November 2002. It seems like just a month ago we had the ceremony, with a cake and dress and best man and bridesmaids, ect. We've been legally married over a year, living on our own together in a little apartment in my hometown. We both work, and are loving living this life together. There are hard times true, where disagreements occur, but sometimes one must just say 'Ok, I love you, let's not fight over this. Hug?' and it all works out. Giving in easily when wrong and never going to bed angry are two best bits of advice I have now for couples, whether married or not! These are sometimes hard to do, but always attainable if you truly care about your partner. I wish you and Pearl the BEST in life and hope everything works out for you two, long distance wise, and that when it comes time to immigrate to be together, a smooth and easy path there. (immigration to America, even for further education is generally hard. We were lucky we got all the documentation done early and efficently so it went quickly from there.) That's surprisingly similar to our situation, yes ... interestingly enough, that'd make you the second long-distance-relationship-leading-to-marriage couple I've met via Cardea... definitely encouraging to know that it can work!...
