Reading and Re-Reading

How did you put your old habit of reading and then re-reading old books? I suffer heavily from this problem - I never have trouble with my procrastination - I alwways no exactly how to procrastinate - I just pick up whichever book is handy and read it again. ITs really not terribly productive (unless you count being able to hold conversations with similarly afflicted people which are composed entirely of quotes from the Trilogy of Five for hours on end as being incredibly useful), and I even re-read books that I know I didnt think were particularly amazing if I have already re-read the books I like in the past while....

You had method to quit the habit, or was it jusr pure will power?

smiley - cheersvp

Hmmm. Well, I was at a new college... new start... new library... picked some new books, liked them, went on from there...

I don't particularly get time to read these days, but, summer holiday, I get a summer holiday, that'll be good smiley - smiley

But, willpower, yes... get a book you haven't read, pick it up, read it. It's hard, but you'll thank yourself for it smiley - smiley

Oh well I read new books as well, whenever I come across them.... I am a member of the public library here in Edinburgh, the nearest library is only 7 minute walk away, but it always seems easiest to just look around for something in the flat - I got an 8 pound library fine last time I had any books out smiley - yikes - I got all carried away and got 9 books out smiley - erm

Hmm, you could always try the slightly odd thing I used to do at one point... every time you're re-reading a book, make sure you're reading a new one simultaneously...

The slightly odd bit was that I used to alternate reading two pages of each book smiley - smiley

Quite fun, actually...

Im not sure I could do that - once I start reading I tend to get totally swept up in whatever book it is. I dont even notice doing stuff like turning the page or getting to a new chapter... its like playing Doom2 with your flatmate all night - theres no room inside yoiiur head for anything else, and then eventually the fact that it is light outside starts to penetrate through the red mist....
