Cuzco Peru
Posted Apr 29, 1999
Cuzco - the navel of the universe according to it's Inca founders and many modern travellers besides. This is a city steeped (is that a word?) in Spanish colonial and Inca architecture and traditions. This city is fairly peaceful by south american standards so you can expect to see a religous festival/riot/major geological event only every other day. The most 'touristy' of Peru's destinations is welcome relief for any western visitor no matter how 'in tune with the native mindset'/'naive' they may be. hot showers abound in the cheaper hotels and stone oven baked pizza and homemade pasta are within a stones throw of the Plaza de Armas(main square). Basically, this town is much more geared to the western traveller than anywhere else in Peru.
