I've just spotted your name on the 'Who's Online' box and I thought I'd stop by and wish you all the best!
I've just had my second wedding anniversary (22nd August) You'll have a fantastic day, you'll feel like you're floating on air. Unfortunately the day goes too quickly.
What are American weddings like? (I'm British) Are you having a big white wedding with all the trimmings?
I love weddings, my brother got married on the 5th August and I cried all day! I cried at my own wedding when we were signing the register (I'm SOOOooo emotional!)
Best of luck anyway, give Andy a squeeze from me with love all the way from London!

LOL! Thank you very much!

We're actually having two weddings really, one in Maryland with our parents (where my parents live) and another at the end of the week in London so that all of his friends can attend. He's the one leaving his country, so we have to make sure he gets a grand send-off. (We're calling the ceremony in London a 'blessing' but we're wearing the clothes again and having a vicar and all that).

In Maryland the wedding is going to be outside in the english gardens of a small mansion. A 5 course dinner will be served in one of the dining rooms and we'll have dancing as well. Everything is coming along beautifully. We've rented the place in Maryland and I've bought my dress already and everything.

Thanks for your kind wishes! I'm so excited! Everything is just being lovely, Andy is very romantic and VERY helpful with wedding ideas and decisions, and now that we've turned his immigration over to an immigration lawyer, we both feel much more relaxed about just leaning back and enjoying our engagment. smiley - smiley

Wow that sounds fantastic!
Where in London is Andy from and how did you meet? Does Andy like the States? I'd love to visit one day. My husband and I would like to do a fly-drive one year.
Are you staying in England long or are you going on Honeymoon? It must be costing you a bit!

Best of luck once again!

Andy is from the Southeast. He lives in Plumstead right now. (He's just put his flat up for sale, which kind of scares me and is a VERY big deal. The old bachelor pad is getting sold. smiley - winkeye)

He's the trombone player for The Ray Gelato Giants, a swing band. I'm a swing dancer and I had their CD, so I went to Liquid (a club here in Chicago) to see them. Andy hit on me all weekend and I pretended I wasn't interested because I didn't want a relationship with someone that was all the way in London. Of course, it was love at first sight and I couldn't get him out of my head, so two weeks later I took a look a the band's schedule and sent Andy an email. He called me immediately. 3 friends of mine and I drove up to Montreal (15 and a half hours) to see him play. Andy and I fell in love truely that weekend. We've travelled back and forth tons of times since then. He's been here probably 2 months out of the last year and I've been there about the same. We did New Years this year in Lugano, Switzerland.

Andy is not that fond of the states in some ways, and very fond of it in others. It's just that a new place can be hard to get used to and Americans tend to seem extremely loud and pushy to brits. The thing is, he loves me... and he's ready for a change.. and we can live off of my salary until he can work, so it just makes more sense to live here. I love London, though, so if he decides he needs to move back there we can do that too.

We are just having the blessing in England one night and then headed off to Spain for our honeymoon. The wedding here is being paid for by my folks, then the party there we and his parents are paying for, then his uncle from Holland owns the villa in Spain that we'll be using for our honeymoon, so really all we need to pay for is one party and our plane tickets... and food and stuff. As I said, Andy is selling the flat so that will give us some floatable cash and I'm sure my parents will help out. Between us we have 8, so they are all spending a bit and it comes out cheaper than everyone expected. smiley - smiley

What is a fly-drive?

Hi Krissy!
Oh wow, what a love story! The way my husband and I met is so dull in comparison (he was a friend of my two brothers!)
I live not far from Plumstead! I live in Surrey Quays, which is near to Greenwich in southeast London.
How exciting for you both, especially for Andy, what a change!
I don't think I could live anywhere else. I've lived in London all my life and although it has many bad points like crime, pollution, the weather, I could never leave. I love sunshine and beaches and always had an ambition when I was younger that I would live abroad, somewhere in the Mediterranean perhaps, just for a year or so. I met John before I could make the dream reality so I guess it'll never happen. (Oh and a fly-drive is a holiday where you fly over, collect a rental car from the airport and drive round the country)
Where is the villa in Spain? Have you been to Spain before? I was there for a week at the end of July. We went to the 'Costa Del Sol' to a resort called 'The Torrox Costa'. John's sister and
Brother-in-law have an apartment there. It was very un commercialised, as it's where the Spanish spend there holidays. It was lovely, although it felt a bit strange being the only Bits on the complex; you usually find the 'Costa Del Sol' flooded with Brits! John and I went to Malta for our honeymoon. We're both very interested in sightseeing and history so we thought it would be a good choice considering it's been invaded and taken over by practically every other country that surrounds it. Unfortunately we were there for two weeks and the island's very small, so we saw everything there was to see and visit within the first week!
Best of luck once again, I hope you'll both be very happy!
Clare
