This month has been the month of radio slip ups, where producers have let their presenters play games with public opinion, to put themselves forward as above standards. First it was Ross and Brand and now Moyles. Moyles has in the same breath said that polish people and prostitutes make good cleaners and interleaved comments about both in such a way that we cannot ignore his bigotry. But he and the BBC feel he need not apologise, and in response to the Polish community's complaint that he is enforcing negative sterotypes that are damaging for polish people trying to get in the UK, that the meaning was "lost in translation".
Lost in translation? He said it in English didn't he? Or perhaps they are referring to the Polish not understanding what he meant when, because their English is clearly not good enough, the BBC presumes, they translated what he said and lost the meaning? For the sentences heard live or read, give a clear meaning. He is one of those en that make those kind of jokes. Those edgy, pub jokes that people laugh into their beers about and feel liberated by, as they skirt around accepted norms of respect. Previously Moyles has got away with references to his gay producer, women in the studio and more.
Must we tolerate every piece of rubbish churned out by the BBC simply because it is out most privileged broadcast body, enjoying an ad free life thanks to our taxes, that once stood for British standards, but now for huge media personality blips?
