I've always liked that kind of thing, too. 
I once heard a functionally illiterate man read this phrase:
"... would rather be hurt by praise than helped by criticism."
as
"... would rather be hurt by Protestants than helped by Christians."
I know this isn't what you had in mind, but it was a torturous tortuous road getting him to -read- rather than guess, as he had unfortunately been taught.
