On the subject of pairs of words that are almost the same but mean different things, whoever put together the Editor's Recommendation for today seems to have mixed up "prevaricate" with _something_ else....
By the way, how does one report a series of breaches of h2g2 etiquette, and what are the consequences?

Interesting issue. In my dictionary ' to prevaricate' means to speak or act evasively, which when you're talking about avoiding doing work, fits in rather nicely. However, I've just noticed that at Dictionary.com that the definition is 'To stray from or evade the truth; equivocate', which doesn't work quite so well within that context. Must be one of those English English / American English things. We live and learn, eh?

Hi Anna! Is there a page for pairs of words? I wanted to make a contribution and give you a link, but I wasn't sure where to link to...
Thanks!
