...that is going on in the 'Film Vs Digital' thread.
I'm really glad that you are enjoying your photography - I love all of the stuff that I do and I'm constantly trying new things in an attempt to make my pictures better.
You do make some very valid points and it's a pity that some of the posters seem to present a negative ('scuse the pun) aspect regarding what you say. I just wanted to pop in and say that largely, I agree with you. Film is a terrific format - I grew up on it and I learnt most of my photography skills from that. I have an open mind now, after coming back to photography from many years doing different things. All the kit I used to have has gone, not from damp like your gear suffered, but from wasting my money on other hobbies. I'm glad I came back to it though - it's one of those things that I always knew I could do, but never really knew why I enjoyed it! I see it in a different light now! (Ooops, yet another pun!)
I'm not anti-film, neither am I (fully) pro-digital. I just use the kit I have got now, much like yourself. At the end of the day, the pictures are all that matter. If you get as much pleasure from your negatives as I get from my new-fangled-photoshopped-images, then Hey, we've both had a result!
Long may film continue, long may I continue to film...

I think some people are quite defensive of digital as they have spent a lot of money on cameras , etc and it has been sold as the be and end all of photography by camera shops and manufactures.....for someone to come along and say they can get as good or even better photos from a newish £170 film camera or a 30 year old Olympus puts them in a slightly awkward position. Which is sad really.
.
It doesn't matter what type of camera you have, the most important thing is getting out there and taking pics, be they digital or film. I think in a way it is better to spend less on a camera and more on getting out and taking photos as it is the only way to get better results.
I am really getting into photography again after my 10 year gap of not taking a singl pic. I find I am finding things that would make a good photo when I am out about , without even actually looking, like I used to.
....out of the blue my mind is coming up with ideas for photos, like blowing up some surgical gloves and taking pic from side, sure it may not work, but that doesn't really matter as it gets my mind moving again and may lead onto other ideaa. I like to just wander around for hours with camera in bag, I may not take a single photo, but that doesn't matter as gets me out and about in fresh air!!
