The Village of Poling in West Sussex
Poling is a small quiet village, which has a historical Norman church, a phone box and
two post boxes, and not a great deal else. This village is mainly concerned with the
surrounding farms, including cattle farms and a mushroom factory.
The most locally famous thing about Poling is the brand new Children’s Hospice. Often
thought of as being situated near the coastal town of Worthing, In truth the Hospice is
within Poling boundaries.
Poling is fortunate enough to have several picturesque ponds dotted throughout it where
many different forms of wild life may be observed.
There are several historical features of Poling; one is that the fields were once home to
a massive radar array which formed part of the countries defences in the Second World War.
Due to this there are AA positions and Pill boxes located around the village. The famous
author A.A.Milne and Christopher Robin, of course lived in a 17th
century house in the easternmost part of Poling. A swan on the lake by the house was named
Hopper swan by A.A.Millne and was featured in one of the Winnie the Pooh books.
In terms of purchasing anything in Poling you are limited in the extreme, you can buy
eggs from Peckham’s farm, which are very good, but that is about it. You should definitely
stock up well before you arrive.
How to get to Poling
There are two ways to get to Poling. The first option is to walk from wherever you may be.
This is likely to be long and tiring with little real sense of achievement once you arrive.
The more sensible option is to drive there.
The A 27 is a long road that goes across the bottom of Sussex from Eastbourne to
Portsmouth. This road actually goes straight through the village but as no-one lives on the
much smaller part of Poling which is on the north side of the road this causes no
problems.
Poling contains three streets in the village all coming off the A 27. The main road,
called Poling Street, is about a mile long, windy and has most of the houses on. The second
is a short road that runs parallel to the A 27 and only passes houses; the third is about
half a mile further east along the A 27 and provides access to some houses and the mushroom
factory.
Where to Eat
Poling has no restaurants or markets where you might buy food. For this reason you may
wish to take a packed lunch. You may find a pleasant picnic spot, as these are plentiful
around Poling.
Where to Stay
Poling is again rather limited in places to stay. Unless you know someone with a room to
spare you will be limited to a single Bed and Breakfast.
Poling is not a big city, but what it lacks in functionand smog, and other
usual features of large city</|FOOTNOTE> it makes up for in pure simplicity. You can go
there on a summer’s day and totally forget yourself just exploring and walking. A truly
remarkable place.

that has a bit of other correction as well, grammar and some of the writing was not in anything like house style. If you'd like me to just spellcheck then tell me.
