Hi.
I came across your Personal Space and noticed that you made mention of Helghast.
That's the name I have been using on these boards for about a month. Was there another person using that name before me?
Hope you can help as I don't want to be treading on anyone's toes here.
Just a thought, aren't there meant to be moderators who keep track of names to prevent duplication?
Thanks
PS Great name by the way . Named after a true genius!

I havent been on for a while ( fewmonths actually). You saw your name on my home page, cos I set it up that way. Whoever views my front page sees their own name where yours came up,if that makes sense. So if for example someone with the name "Fred Bloggs" viewed my page he would see "Fred Bloggs" where you saw your name....
Hope that makes sense!

It does...many thanks! I thought for a second that the "real" Helghast might pop in at any time and boot me off.
Rather clever code on h2g2!
I have used only one other message forum before (work's) and it's nowhere near as sophisticated as this one. Our company deals in data systems too...go figure!
Since you are a Spike fan, have you read "It Ends With Magic"? I mentioned it to Mrs Cake, but she had not heard of it and was last vowing to track down a copy. If she's not already done so maybe you could help her? To help spread the word to the masses?
This may not be necessary as she seems a more than capable lady- and very nice too!
(Bit early for this sort of thing, but what the hell...)

yes, it is pretty good, based on his own childhood. I prefer his poems I have to say, but my prized possession is a signed 1960's edition of Puckoon he signed for me when i went to see him after one of his "audience with.." shows, a few years before he died.

I do love Spike's poems. That man had a remarkable talent.
It's funny how some people get better or worse as they get older, but Spike was a law unto himself. He absolutely refused to play by the rules and was consistent only in this.
Before he died, my dad tried to get me into the Goons, but I never appreciated it until much later on. I remember he used to laugh like a drain at the "Q" stuff, but I just couldn't see it until years later!!
It's good that you cherish seeing the great man in the flesh and even have something to show for it.
Your work sounds very mysterious. I may risk death and ask what you actually do.
Mind you, I asked someone what they did a while back as they said they slew dragons and that seemed to put them on the defensive.
Long story short, but I always felt that dragons get a bad time of it, and the only other person I ever knew who used that expression to describe his daily exploits was an absolute git. He had a string of women he used to abuse on a regular basis and was proud of using that expression in conjunction with that too! He was a real prince...
Have you ever read any of Michael Bentine's stuff, by the way?

Footnote to the above...the "git" in question rung me at work yesterday, completely out of the blue to apologise for an incident which I hadn't even known had taken place.
His ears must have been burning or something...
Anyway, I bluffed my way through the conversation only to discover he'd rung the wrong extension and should have been apologising to someone else. He was then doubly apologetic and embarrassed.

Sorry, have been away. Well, to be honest I am now going to have to kill you cos you asked me what I do to pay the rent.
Seriously though, I can't talk about it, I'm sure you will understand a polite refusal. It's nothing too exciting, just one of those things. sorry.
Got to there is to be drunk and to be eaten in this house somewhere.

No problem, Spike. Perfectly understandable.
I wish I could say the same about my job, but the only confidentiality issues here are financial.
In fact, you may have fallen asleep just reading that last bit...
Sorry!
