Heya Rod, I'm passing through Christchurch in a few weeks time. Not sure how long for (we're flying out of there), might just be long enough for a tea, might not.

Shall I see if I can arrange time enough for a cuppa/pint if you're up for it?

Ooooh!

Should be able to manage that without too much of a struggle...

Hokay.

Date?
Time?

Sorry for the delay Rod, we're really not very organised with this trip smiley - erm

We *should* be in Christchurch on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th of October, and we fly out early on Thursday 9th.

We've hired a van from Jucy, we used them in the States and they were great, and are planning on staying at a place called the Amber Kiwi holiday park. Unless you know it and advise against it smiley - winkeye

Other than that, we're *really* unorganised smiley - biggrin We only remembered yesterday that we'd need visa's to stop over in Sydney on the way back smiley - laugh

Two days in Chch, eh? not long enough... (but where do you go afterwards?)

Can't comment on the hotel - don't know it or of it.

For places of interest that I can recommend, suggest you look up:

. The Gondola:

. Museum (has lots of Maori stuff)

. Antarctic Centre

...and of course Hobbits - but I'll let you do the searching...

Cheers Rod!

Christchurch will be our last stop, picking up a small campervan in Auckland three weeks prior to it, and driving around smiley - smiley

After that, we're flying over to Sydney for three nights to see my cousin before coming home.

Getting close, Pastey - have you started saving-up yet?

I've been thinking ...(ok, ok)... but I recently bought myself a TomTom and mount it in the car - it's ever so useful. Rental charges appear to be around $5nz per day (probably less in a package?) and it can take a lot of the pain (or fun?) from getting around. No doubt the hire people will have such things?

We're currently in Nelson, made it to the South Island last night, and free-camped not far from Picton smiley - smiley

I've been recommended a pub called Pomfrey's (? I think) in Christchurch, so if you fancy a pint... smiley - ale

I've also been reading up on the place, and am really looking forward to seeing it. New Zealand so far has been a wonderful place, I'm thoroughly enjoying it!

Can't find a Pomfreys...
Closest I found is 'Pomeroys' ( 292 Kilmore Street, Chch Central ). Don't know it, but if it is the one and if anyone dared to recommend it to YOU ...

Anyway, it seems I still have a few days to get my head in gear.

So, when it gets a bit closer ... date & approximate time, eh? I'll allow you to buy me a beer (Speight's in a 12) - but the meal is on me.

Hi Pastey!

Yes indeed, I really did enjoy meeting you both
It's nice to be able to put a face to someone you once knew only from typed words

- - - -

Ah, the lift back... No problem with that ... but ...
I've gone right off my TomTom NavAid - for some unknown reason it had lost my 'Home' address & asked me something like "Which 'Home'?" (maybe I'd got out of range?).
Not too serious, as I kept going North(ish), found the main road to Picton & picked up Kaiapoi / Rangiora.
(petty hate: getting old - DON'T)
It has, though made me rethink my allegiance & am now looking at the Garmin (wanna buy a TomTom?)

- - - -

When are you coming back?
I'll be moving into my little wooden hut in a few months time and will then have a much more manageable space (1/3 the size of this great 4-bedroom place - wanna buy 2/3 of my furniture?) and you're invited to come & stay, (though it's further out than Rangiora).

- - - -

Are you going to let us know where you went / what you did ?
