This should keep you in the loop when conversations start.

I'm sending the same message to all the people who have expressed an interest, so hopefully we'll get something going amongst us.

Will send a note round tomorrow as a 'test' email.

Bye for now

Hi, Kaye: You know, I'm not trying to "duck out" of anything. I'm certainly not afraid of trying to crit a piece of work, as some of the site members will verify.

But - and I ask this sincerely - am I qualified?

Only recently have I dared to join and submit a work to something like "Get Writing."

I have not been straining and training for years, with insatiable motivation, to make myself "write a novel" (for instance).

However, I am an avid reader, and when my son suggested I turn some notes I had taken into a book, I simply drew upon my reading memory, asked myself whose style I liked best, and wrote something armed with a "montage" of styles I admired most.

I suppose that how I have presented what I am offering to the site is now "my style" of writing. I cannot now imagine writing in any other way.

I know nothing about what may be called the "technique" of writing;I have no insight into the mind of a writer;I am not a clever, clever individual who is able to easily absorb whatever he has learned currently, and then proceed to draw on it to criticise another's efforts.

As a result I cannot easily accept your invitation to join "WWW."

But, as long as other writers realise that any crit from me is one that comes from a man who has only recently entered the fray;who has no "target" as such and is not deliberately aiming for "fame";who is, however, an avid reader who knows what he likes, then OK, shove along the bench and make room for me...

With Regards

Jim,
We'll shove along the bench, most certainly! I'm sure you know a good story - you know how to read and no one on this planet ever, I mean not ever, stops learning.
If you want to, then please feel free to pick a piece of work from the list of 'my friends' in my portfolio and follow the rules of the group (i.e. tell the person you're going to read it, so they are prepared). Simply say that you're a novice if that makes you feel a little easier. I'm sure whatever you come up with (positive points only, if you don't like a thing, give an explanation as to why) will be appreciated.
Thanks for this.
K
