Mr. X ---> "Be excellent to each other. And party on, dudes!"

So I was in school today and D said something to the effect of it's idiotic to believe in evolution. Of course that very sentence is stupid and ignorant, because you don't "believe in" evolution any more than you "believe in" gravity or "believe in" molecules or any other scientific principle. But that's not what really annoys me. What annoys me is that according to him Creationism is just the /obvious/ truth of the matter and anyone who thinks otherwise is being an idiot. I can't understand how he came to that conclusion, personally. I can understand how you could come to the /opposite/ conclusion, but not that one. Face it people. Evolution /has/ evidence to support it. Creationism does not. Creationism, in fact, seems to rely heavily on /not/ having evidence. Because if any real evidence is ever submitted it's always immediately denounced as false. Either because it supports some other religion and not the one denouncing it, or because it doesn't support /any/ religions that currently exist and so it /must/ be fabricated in some way or another for the sheer sake of undermining those that exist. Every Christian church I know about, for example, claims that Jesus will one day return. But if anyone actually claimed to /be/ the returned Christ, they would /all/ scorn and humiliate him.

Stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

They "know" it's true because that's what they've been taught from birth. Because that's what they want to hear, even if it's not what they need to hear.

Something I find especially annoying is when people say "you have to believe in something". I hear that, and I sit there, and I'm like, "Why?" Is there some reason I "have" to? Is it necessary to my physical survival? Will I suddenly drop dead if I don't? Evidently I'm supposed to. Strange that I haven't yet.

Listen, if you "have" to believe in something, start with believing in yourself.

Although I'll freely admit there are people who actually /do/ think about it. Not many, but some. These are the ones I happen to know (in order of having met them):

M, /Maybe/ D, /maybe/ B, /probably/ J, /probably/ K, /probably/ C (much as I dislike her), and definitely Darakat, Met, Job, and Jerms.

Think about what? I was just a touch confused on that last point and would like to know if I'm being insulted, complimented or other.

Great post by the way. You should meet my mate Davey.

Think about their religion, instead of blindly accepting whatever they were taught from birth. So yes, it was a compliment.

Thanks.

You are very much welcome.

I have to think about religion. I was never told anything blindly from birth and I'm not in a country that forces religion upon it's people in some form or another. I think philosophically and I have influences from all around. My dad's a vicar (almost) but I've never seen my mum in a church as far as I can remember. I was the only non believer at the christian youth club I went to voluntarily to see various girl friends (at different times of course) and have tried organised and individual religions, neither of which worked so I just formed my own.

By the way if anyones interested in joining just ask.

Jerms - a Brief flicker and then gone again.

That's a good rant, X.

I particularly like the last line.

Now if only we could print that out in pamplets and hand them around, outside churches, then we might be getting somewhere...

I never understood how you could believe in yourself? That just sounds like something that teacher who THINKS they're making a difference would say when really everyone else KNOWS they aren't.

This could be embarrassing if you're thinking of becoming a teacher.

And to belive in yourself you have to know your limits which is where people tend to go wrong and then they become conceited.

And I've forgotten what else.

True, very often people get conceited and arrogant. But not /always/.....

Jerms - a Brief flicker and then gone again.

My problem is I know very well what my limits are, but I keep being very fuzzy about the space contained within those limits. Which is actually quite a big space, when I allow myself to realise it...

Being arrogant is better than being conceited but I'm better than both of them because I'm ACE!

You've never heard the word ace? Basically just replace the letter a with a gr the c with an e and the e with a th.

I'm right my spelling is appalling.

What I mean was I'm better than being conceited and arrogant because Im great.

Its ironic because Im being both arrogant and conceited in the same sentance that I say Im not. Capish?
