As regular readers/lurkers will know I am an avid painter. In fact, I'm a fanatical painter. For further details please refer to the humble hunchback series.
Now I recently began to sell things on ebay in an attempt to drum up cash. Slowly at first because my collections pretty personal and I was relucant to part with many things but then rapidly as I grew increasingly fed up with bits and bobs.
About two months back I hit a desperate spot. With no cash and a sister to take care of in an over protective brotherly way (aka spending about 50 quid on credit) I whacked on my Spartans.
Now I love Spartans. Spartans are sexy. They have gold armour, red robes, big shields, and kill stuff. What more do you want. As an aside to the auction I mention I'm have a few more and would consider comission work.
So the winner emails me. And orders another ten.
Never one to be put off I informs the client that I had other models and intended to sell them soon if they wished to be kept informed. Yes they replied - and then asked what I had. 'Bretonnians' I calmly say. 'Im interested in some pegasus knights and knights of the realm - how much each?'
I tensed. If I said too low I'd lose out - too high and I scared them off. I calmed down and refered to Micro Art studios. They charge a fortune basically. So I went off roughly half of this. '15 quid a pegasus and 7 quid a knight, but if you order quite a bit ill do them cheaper' - that includes the price of the models, which I already had.
'How much for 5 pegasus and 15 knights'
...
I number crunched.
£175 - iirc
That was too much though. I mean, all that for twenty models?? I informed him I was happy with 150 and I'd throw in the Spartans for nothing.
'Great' he replies.
Now as you can imagine I was a little suspicious so I asked for a down payment of fifty quid - which I impart blame upon my new LLF.
He happily accepted.
Now I began number crunching properly.
The knights cost me roughly 30 quid cause I got a deal. Call it another what, 20 quid for paint/fees/P&P.
I just netted 100 pounds pure unadultarated profit.
So what do I plan to do with this tidy sum? Well when I've sold my other ebay Items I need a new bed - the one I had is making noises that I dont trust. Secondly I need to begin saving for the summer of hell - 40 quid a week for many weeks (real job or pro painter? PRO PAINTER!).
And third, and most crippling of all, I have an LLF - lovely lady friend - who has demanded to be wined, entertained, and pleased.
(AKA I asked her out, suggesting pub, pictures, and shopping.)
Anyway I can't stand here being an excentricly rich and attractive artist all day, I have films to watch damn it.
Night all
