We watched Where Eagles Dare last night. It makes the post-WWII German economic miracle all the more remarkable that it should have happened just after Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood killed off 95% of the population, and 87% of their vehicles. I remember watching the film for the first time in the Queens' cinema on Union St, which was a high narrow cinema with steeply-raked seats and what seemed like a vast screen. The opening music - trum tattoo then orchestra, and the lone Fokker hugging the snow-clad mountains... so dramatic. A nae bad edge of seat film. Splendifferoonie for a... what... 14-year-old.

Yeah good intro music. I tried to watch it but I couldn't handle all that snow... it's what I came 6,000 miles South to get away from.

Well partly that.

And of course the positive draw of the Republic.
