I have spent the day working reasonably steadily on my thesis - hopefully that'll be the way it is from now...
I have just phoned Susan at work and she sounded ver' tired. I think I'll crack open a bottle of wine tonight - I'm sure there is one.
The King's Speech is ver' good. Recommended. Both Darcy and Eliza are ageing. Helena B-C is a pip.
4.20 and it's only just starting to go dark.
Miah was out for a good part of the day.
I listened to CD1 (LP sides 1 & 2) of the White Album this morning and really enjoyed it. I have the LP and the CD but not the recent remasters issue. I have this theory that the White Album was a sampler album predicting the 1970s in the same way as London Calling was a sampler album predicting the 1980s. OK, it's not an exact fit but nor is the theory completely duff.
What tonight? Sausages and brussels and cabbage and tatties. Vino. A flick. I wouldn't inflict Pink Flamingoes on Susan - there's more chance of her enjoying Wozzek... Oh, I know...
I am, by the way, on the side of the crix guest house proprietors. I have said it before - the state should not be allowed to discriminate, nor should social enterprises, or commenrcial organisations large enough such as might lead to economic or social disadvantage, but the nearer we approach to the individual the greater should be the freedom of association and expression - it is a matter of balance. In the Registrar cases, the balance was properly struck, but the guest house proprietors should have had the freedom to say no. Not to parade the guests to the gallows in a tumbril, mind, or to picket their homes or spit at them in the street, but a simple polite 'no' is a simple freedom of association choice and I don't think that the state should be negativing it.
Stonewall have a slogan: Some People are Gay. Get Over It.
Hmmmmm... Some People are Gay-Averse. Ditto.
What's sauce for the goose.
As it happens, I ain't, and I never have been gay-averse. I was a proud guest at Scotland's second (by less than an hour) Civil Partnership. It's PORFs I'm more likely to have issues with, and even then my view these days is live and let live.
Also, for the record, I wouldn't stay in their poxy guest house if I was paid to...
