you should tell my kids that - we're now at the stage where they can't be seen with me in public (this time because we went out and I was wearing a skirt made of my dad's old ties and my purple docs... sheesh...)

A skirt made of ties? It may be the pretentious indie in me speaking but that sounds pretty cool!

it is the coolest thing ever

pre-gruesomes I used to spend my summers going round the various European rock festivals, my favourite was always the Rock Am Ring (which was on this weekend )

And I used to make something or whatever that I could wear there. One year it was the jeans with gras painted round the bottom and flowers growing up the legs (still got those somewhere) and one year it was my dad's disgusting 1970s kipper ties

I wore it at home a year or two ago and he demanded I cut one out and give it him back. now I've discovered more ties that my mum sent over at the time and am making similar skirts for the rather World Famous Gruesome Twosome.

I have a pair of jeans that have buttons I sewed on around the hems of both legs. They're really cool, customised clothing is the best cause nobody else has something quite like it.

I'm tempted to nick a bit of your idea and embroider grass and flowers around the bottom of a pair of jeans - would you mind if I did? I could try putting 'Sho' on there, too, to 'sho' (sorry) people it was your idea
