Earthquake
Posted Feb 22, 2011
Well here we go again.
A 6.3 magnitude quake erupted almost directly under Christchurch at 1 o'clock this afternoon. I was in an office which, mercifully, did not fall down. After hiding under my desk, I vacated along with all my colleagues.
A spell of shaking and gibbering insanely eventually wore off and I was able to find my car and friends and drive home with them. Virtual gridlock, but the police were brilliant at keeping things on the go, where they could.
My house is fine (30kms from Chchch), although the aftershocks are rattling it regularly.
The city is smashed. Some offices flattened. People stuck inside. Fatalities will be significant.
I'm still in shock and am about to head for the Emergency Box, wherein lies a small bottle of brandy. A mouthful will do me good and steady my shakiness.
I'll keep you posted....

This has to be the funniest news report I've read for a long time I'm glad I don't live in Malawi: the amount of fruit and veg I eat leads to healthy bottom-burping

Long time PR
Posted Jan 31, 2011
I'm about to head into PR to look at the latest candidates for the Edited Guide. It'll be the first time in years. I'm hoping that it's as challenging as I remember it and that comments are readily given and received.
Once I've re-acqainted myself with what's going on, I'll submit something myself ... and hope that I can hit the heights of some of my better Guide Entries, with the help of the Peerers
I was looking at my list of Entries - with a view to archiving them - and have spotted a couple which I really don't like much. Jordan found the same... It's a bit embarassing, but I guess we can't all be brilliant all the time

Committed to helping shape the future of h2g2
Posted Jan 28, 2011
Well now, how did that happen exactly?
I've committed myself to helping with the development of ideas and plans for the future of h2g2. Five days ago hootoo was barely a thought on the edges of my brain And here I am with a new Frenchbean Patch Intro, signed up to a couple of Googlegroups and scanning the threads for areas of concern from other researchers.
I guess it goes to show that you can take the girl out of hootoo, but you can't take hootoo out of the girl
Looks like a clone might come in handy.
