Ship of the Line

For several days he follows the French ships until at last the frigate is sighted again on the horizon. Believing the squadron is near, and seeing a protected harbour is near, he sets all sail and closes with the enemy against impossible odds.

Might be better as

Added the word also to avoid near ... near
