Gnomon to Florida Sailor - Hard astarboard

I'm doing the final polishing on your 'hard astarboard' entry. There's one phrase that puzzles me, and I don't know enough nautical terms to know what's right.
"Among the witnesses was the helmsman who was the wheel at the time of the accident"
Should that be "who was at the wheel" rather than "who was the wheel"?
Or is "the wheel" a term for the person steering?

You are correct, please add the "at"
Looked at the entry and everything looks fine, except is there any way the rudder in the illustration could be turned to the other side? Then it would match the title of the entry.
Thanks

Florida Sailor, we're aware of the bug in Pliny which hides text in conversations which is between the angle brackets < and >.
For the moment, until the bug is fixed, please put spaces around those symbols and you and your readers won't experience the problem.
