Jane Austen-athon

There's a 'Hidden Objects' game called 'Jane Austen's Rogues and Romance' (it's a BBC game, btw) on Facebook, which I'm playing, and it prompted me to (re)read the Jane Austen novels. So far, I've finished 'Pride and Prejudice' (of which I had a very vague recollection), 'Sense and Sensibility' (which I hadn't known), and 'Emma' (which I had never finished).

We have some very good guide entries

Jane Austen, Author: A1171595

Pride and Prejudice: A847505

Sense and Sensibility: A1283195

Emma: A6084966

Apart from giving an insight to the 'hows' and 'whats' of her time, these novels are highly amusing.
The beauty is, that I can get them all for free on http://gutenberg.org , and I even have the audio versions from http://librivox.org (although some accents need getting used to), which means if I'm too tired to read or it is not possible to read, I can listen to the books.

What are you currently engrossed with?

Soft Landing (Bel)

I never thought the day would come that I'd be grateful for my padded (ie fat) bum, but today was the day. I don't know how I did it, it went so fast, but I fell off my bike (while trying to negotiate a barrier*) like a sack of potatoes and landed flat on my bum. It nicely absorbed most of the shock so that my tailbone hurts a little but not too much. smiley - puff

I think I may have pulled those breaks too hard, I'm not sure. And there was loose chippings, or sand, but it's never been a problem on my old bike. I still have to get used to the fact that if I pull the breaks just a bit too much the bike stops dead - that never happened with my old bike.

You live and learn. smiley - senior

UK Centric

I just idly browsed through an edited entry and found the following bit of advice:

>>Please Note: h2g2 is not a definitive medical resource. If you have any health concerns, you must always seek advice from your local GP. You can also visit NHS Direct. <<

Yeah, like it would be of any use to me to visit NHS direct. Bute then it's not important, is it? After all, this is still a UK centric website.
