The ongoing mystery of W.G.P

Hi all,

One little question that nags at me is, what do the letters W.G.P stand for?

Sure they could stand for Won't Guarantee Privacy, Wedding Guests Prohibited, Wombat Gonad Porridge or a whole slew of other such TLAs (Three Letter Abbreviations).

In the context I'm speaking of however, they are listed as the author of the quote "Travel may well broaden the mind, but it certainly narrows the bank account", in my desktop calendar that has a nifty little quote for each day.

I've done a Google search and found nothing conclusive, please help!!

I found this on the ABC (Australia) website and I think it answers my question.

Weeks ago, someone asked who this WGP dude who keeps showing up on desk calendars was. Nobody knew.

But now I do!

W.G.P. is a gentleman by the name of Willam George Plunkett who worked for the Collins company for nearly 40 years.
He worked in the print room and oversaw the production of the refills. Over the years he wrote his own quotes and they started appearing in the product. He died in 1975 and Collins have continued the tradition of including some of his quotes on a Wednesday. (Thanks to Rodney Quinn for this information).

Have Fun
