I thought this article in the paper was pretty interesting.

Of course, it's a newspaper version of a scientific study, and there are often some misperceptions that pop up along in the transition, but I think it's still worth reading.

And I definitely question some of their assumptions. Of course, one of the first things I do when I read a study is to look at the methods they used, and the assumptions that underpin the study, and see if there are flaws which could significantly bias the result.

Here, there's one assumption that I think is seriously flawed. It doesn't totally invalidate the results, but it does (to me, at least) highlight the difference between how clinicians and researchers view diagnosis, and how this can be problematic when clinicians are trying to apply the results of research in real life.....

I realize that I'm babbling, so I'll stop for now.

Sadly, the news turned out bad rather than good. But I keep hoping -- I've sent out applications for 24 jobs so far!

"The bottom line for patients: Diagnoses for mental disorders can hinge on the doctor as much as the symptoms."

I have no problem believing that.
