Hi ,
I wanted to ask a couple of q's that would not have been appropriate in the converstion thread we were involved in at the Feminist Shrine critique.
1. I am assuming you 2 are from the U.S (I know it makes an ass out of u and me)
2. What sort of reading/films/entertainment of that sort are you into then?
Cheers
Jassen

Hi there Jassen,
Sorry I haven't responded faster. Me and the missus have only the one computer, so we're playing tag currently. also, I was ensconsed with our crony John.
In answer to question un, no sorry mate, we're not American, we're Welsh, and up late. I can see why you'd think U.S. due to the latr arn and most Britishers don't get that passionate about feminism. Or anything, for that matter. But we are passionate people.
For entertainment, well I'm a scriptwriter, taking a Masters in it at the mo. My first love, thoug, is music. Not playing or performing, but listening. I fell in love with Buddy Holly some 14 years ago, aged 9. And then, when I was ten, I found my inspiration in The Beatles. I am what you might call a Beatlemaniac, but that's a somewhat limiting idea. It's rather strange, I think, for a lesbian to have a link with the boys, but they are and have been so important in my life. But let's not get started on that. I love music, all of it, though I cannnot pretend to have enough money to have heard it all or even part of it.
I love it on two levels. I am a great fan of perfect pop music, and that turns up in all ages. But also, there is truly great music which leaves me speechless, and that can also be found anywhere. A mediocre act may have one or two songs that light up my brain.
We like to view tv, though our specifications are high. Those that we really enjoy include Buffy, Farscape, Sex and the City, ER and The West Wing. All foreign as well. A shame as UK tv used to be the pinacle. Dumbing down though, unfortunately.
Mostly I prefer to read non-fiction. Lots of music books, Bill Bryson, especially his works on liguistics. Terry Pratchett is a joy, as one uses one's brain so much in the best of it. women's writing from the 20s and 30s. And a lot of well written but light fiction. Agatha Christie, Miss Read, Enid Blyton's school stories are a great joy to me. Very queer they are.
I was introduced to sci-fi and fantasy by my missus, inc. Pratchett, and although I cannot say I have embraced the genre (see non-fiction clause above), I have enjoyed many of the things I've read. Some Mercedes Lackey books have been enjoyable. Tamora Pierce also. The umm Circle of Magic books. But I like children's and teens books. Oh yes, and I've forgotten Harry Potter. Excellent reads all. We are looking forward to the latest with anticipation, as the end of oblet of Fire was very dark. Recommended highly to all.
Anne McCaffrey I should have read more of due to her passion for them. The Pern books I've never got very far with, and the romance element in many of her books makes me put them down and not start
again. But I have read The Crystal Singer many times, and i think it's fab. SO there.
And gosh yes, I do go on. Sorry, it's how my brain works. Just thank god you're not in a room with me, because you'd probably burst. So enough.

Sorry to have assumed you were from the USA
So you are like me, listening to the dawn chorus and thinking bl**dy hell is that the time
I am not that into non-fiction, always seems to send me to sleep, although I am going to read the teach yourself Javascript in a weekend because I want to do my website this week.
Sorry I am getting very tired now so I think I am going to catch some
Hope to catch up with you both again tomorrow
(And I married a very chatty Geordie, been with her 9 years so I can cope with someone speaking without catching their breath )
Key: Complain about this post
