I just wanted to drop in and congratulate you on joining the Useless Hound groupies
Actually, I think you and Fatty (dropped by your space because I like the nickname) are doing a great job in the AWW, both commenting and contributing. Thanks for this, it really brightens up the whole workshop. Your precenses on the mailing list is also helpful and useful

Boots is a wonderful person, a good writer and so receptive to criticism. It's a joy to read and comment on her work and a priveliledge to get to know her better.
We love spending time in the AWW. We were a bit adrift in hootoo land before we joined up as miners. We're not the most social types, don't really do small talk and alienate a lot of people for one reason or another. Inteligence, honesty, being queer, always acting in tandem, these things put a lot of people off. Plus Lizardy is very shy, she doesn't let it show when she does interact, but she hangs back a lot, so the AWW has been especially good for her.
We like everyone involved in the UG and the AWW. As a group there is a high level of intelligence, humour and kindness, which is exactly what we look for, and so often don't find. We're happy to have stumbled upon a group where we feel we can fit in and be ourselves. I hope that in time we'll be able to call a lot (or all) of you our friends.
Besides enjoying it socially I get a lot out of commenting in AWW anyway. I've had the benefit of five years being taught by a bunch of people who are great writers and teachers. It has given me the altuistic urge to pass the favour along as much as I can. I may not be as good at it as they are, and I'm no teacher, but I know that I'm a good writer and critic, so I have something to offer.
Thanks for the encouragement, you're a treasure.

Boots is one of my oldest friends here and she's a terrific writer! If you get a chance, read A1063180 - not humorous, but her finest piece, I think.
We're fortunate in the UG to have a bunch of great people. The early discussion about eight months ago were incredibly interesting and intelligent (to me at least). Since a certain miner left, who was causing more problems than help, things have been great!
The AWW is great fun as well. It's amazing what sort of stuff is in there! I don't get in as much as I'd like to anymore, but it's very nice to know we have two good miners in there

I read it . It's an incredible piede of writing. Made me , shouldn't have read it while I was in work, giving out numbers while trying not to snivel is no easy task.
I've just put a collaborative bit of non fiction into the AWW. It's an icky little essay . Not quite in the league of the Body Piercing entry, but we try.

I know Incredible, eh? That wasn't written very long ago.
Boots doesn't want it in the AWW or the UG though shame that one of the best pieces of writing I've read can't go into the UG

Indeed, it is a shame, but I understand her reasons. Do you know how she feels about the rest of her stuff? A great deal of it would make a valuable addition to the UG.

I've been browsing your historians society. Wish we could join but we don't have the time to write all the entries we'd like to.
If we had the time I'd write lots about the social history of britain in the first half of the last centuary, the feminist movement, literature, the sexologists and to that lizardy would add heaps about queer history and pop music. And on top of that I'm quite the amature folkloreist. *sigh*
But I'll be keeping a wistful eye on it anyway. It looks like a good project.

Don't worry about writing entries - you don't have to write entries to join .
I'm a pretty avid entry writer (admire people who can write stories) so if you ever decide to write an entry and need some help, I'm here

If we ever get around to writing any of the factual stuff we have planned we'll run it by your historians. Certainly if I do anything on the Edwardian era I will.
Nice to know it's there. And if anyone over there needs an expert on pop music, the Beatles, Buddy Holly or pop culture in general, My lizard is the one to ask. She's really frighteningly knowledgable and she loves showing off...err, I mean helping of course, helping.

Buddy Holly - interesting career and figure! Not that many famous people die like he did
Well the big Bopper for one!

Lizardy seems to have a fandome gene. She doesn't do it by halves. She got into Buddy Holly when she was nine.
But I can see why she loves him so much. Terribly interesting and as influential on the sound of rock and roll as Elvis was on the look of it. One can only speculate about what else he would have achieved. He was certainly interested in making films.
Key: Complain about this post
