Hi Ian, well i am about 10 miles away from Mansfield and i shop there regular. I havn't been to Nottingham city centre for quite some time, it is far too busy and crowded now. I used to be hooked on the centre, but now i really have to have a good reason for going. The parking there is also a nightmare, and it is a wonder they don't slap a fine on you whilst you are waiting at the traffic lights. Also they are introducing a tram system so half the roads are closed and the congestion is really worth avoiding it if you can. I don't think the tram will work anyway as the areas where the stops are going to be, are pathetic to say the least!
So my address is actually classed as Newark, but it must be on the outskirts of it because that is about 14 miles away.
The garage phoned me back to say it was my cable......what a clever boy you are. I also need my handbrake done before i end up burning my clutch out! So the cost is about £105, i think we can just about afford it!!! smiley - sadface
I also used to work in Derby, in fact i took my daughter there on Mon for a bit of shopping therpy....yes and it cost me a small fortune too! But hey she is worth every penny, she is my angel. She gets her exam results tommorow and is acting rather disturbed today, but i suppose so is the rest of the 16 year olds!

Ah well I know Newark too! Well I'm sure we can all understand how your daughter is feeling! Lauren (my daughter)got her A level results just over a week ago! She's off to Sussex university in October! Duncan my son, will be with us for another year, he's just done his AS levels. I do hope your daughter is succesful, good luck from me!

Our previous house was out in the sticks, and we had to jump in the car for everything! Where we live now (been there 16 years) is right in the town centre, two minutes to the station, 1 minute from Boots and Woolies, and whatever else is in the High St. So we don't have to rely on our cars except for business trips!

I'm afraid the cable was an easy guess, as it is the least reliable part of the assembly, but please do think of me as clever, it'll boost the ego. It may of course lessen your credibility with others on this board! Eric and Nige have both seen some of my written work. There still writing to me, but that may just be that they don't feel threatened by a superior intellect!

Where in the lakes are you going?

Ian

Hi Ian, well i have not heard from Eric since last week so i don't know if he is away or what. I will have to send him another e mail see if he is ok. Now you may laugh as i may have this bit wrong but we are going to a place.....sounds like Bonoss on Windermere, you can correct me if i am wrong....and when it comes to directions etc i am always 99% wrong.
We had friends around last night to check all the details are ok and when exactly we are travelling there. They suggested going out for a meal before as there is 8 of us, Mal freaked out saying ermmmm well i don't think Diane will cope!!! They only want to go for a eat all you can for £15.50!! Mal said well Diane wont get her monies worth then!!! And after my experience of France gaining a whopping 8 1/4lb he is dead right too. Now if they did ham sadal etc i would be fine but when you are talking of seseme toast and peking duck oh and spring rolls and stop it Diane don't do this to yourself arghhhhhhhhh!! Got to dash to work now speak later smiley - love dIANE XXX

Also i have been having probs with my computer freezing, and i was on a chat room last night and was told to install AVG to check for a virus, this i did and it seems we had 4 files that had a virus in them so they have been deleated..........all the files were my sons!! So we have had words and i am banning him from the computer!!! Hope you are ok and will speak later if you wish smiley - love Diane x

Oh dear Diane, I hope you don't feel neglected, I didn't have this computer with me, and for some reason the H2G2 message board doesn't let me log on using the other one.

It's Bowness you'll be going to, absolutely lovely! You will be able to go sailing on Windermere, and if you feel able climb either Helvelyn or Great Gable, slightly north of the lake for some wonderful views. If you do go climbing make sure you have some warm clothes and stout shoes. If you go up Great Gable or Helvelyn keep off the scree slopes they're dangerous!

Aira force a fairly long but not massively spectacular waterfall is on the west side of the lake. So plenty to do, even without the bikes!

Have a good time!

Unfortunately Viruses are a pain in the butt! For home computer use Norton do a package which is reasonably inexpensive which give you both a virus hunter and personalo firewall. This should give you adequate protection. Do you have protection? Sorry couldn't resist that!

I don't use computers at home, I'm sick of them by the time I leave work!

Well good morning Ian, i am on the ball as usual. I am now protected for free by AVG and i have got rid of my problems......for now anyway!! Fingers crossed. It seemed i had 4 in total. called Trojan hourse Golon.B and also one called c:?msods.exe all this means nothing to me as you no i am an innocent novice!!
I am just having a coffee break although i am not at work i have decided to clear out my wardrobe and ditch all old and too big clothes......feels good up to yet. I have the biggest bag for the charity shop!! If you keep your oversized clothes its like addmitting that one day you will end up fitting back into them so i am getting rid and not a minute to soon. Its quite a laugh really as i have just tried my daughters bridemaids dress on that she had when she was 13 and it now fits me!! Don't get me wrong though i am not an elf she was taller and broader than most her age although not fat at all. smiley - love Diane x

Well thank you for asking. She did very well considering she re loacated and has only been at the school for little over a year too. She also had some difficulty with different govenerning bodies too...so her goes.. Drama A, English B B C, Leisure and Tourism B B, Maths C (Of which is was convinced she had failed not her strongest subject either), Textiles C C, Science D D (again she struggled with this) and RE D (of which she didn't really enjoy as she has no dreams of becoming a vicar ). So on thw whole very good. What i still have to get to grasps with, is unlike us, when we had CSE'S, and O levels they now grade them so A - C is like O levels and grades D - F is like CSE'S._She wishes to become a drama teacher. She is attending a local college that has its own drama school and there she will be doing a B tech Higher National Diploma in performing Arts. Shelley has performed on stage since the age of 3, and has taken part in 4 christmas panto's at the Nottingham Playhouse of which she had to audition amonst 300 others to get in only 20 places so therfore she has done very well.
Have you heard from Eric yet i have not heard from him in over a week now?
smiley - love Diane x

p.s. another coffee break now filled up 4 large black bin liners so off to the charity shop and tip!

Morning Ian, so our dear friend Eric is back!! I see he has let you know my e mail address, thats fine e mail me when you want. He has warned me to be carful of you ha ha think he is a little jealous so have tried to calm him down. When i installed this computer my brother advised that i use microsoft outlook, i used to use outlook express, i now think my brother wrongly advised me as now i am having problems with regards to putting my own title...along with other things.
At one stage i used to think computers were very ignorant pieces of machinery, but not any more i have met so many friends on here i love it and am now hooked. I spend far too long on here though when really i should be getting on with other things!!! But i bet you know that feeling well.
Well i hope you had a good weekend, mine was fine i enjoyed our stay in Norwich where i have left my darling daughter till the 3rd. Thats 1 less bedroom to have to tidy anyway.
So i read you have been a naughty boy too with regards to your food and now you are cycling for England......join the club i am in a major panick now as i can't seem to shift any more weight and i need to lose 3 1/4lbs befre the 3rd!!! Going away does not help along with the fact i just love ham and cheese...got a soft spot for them at the mo/. So it looks like DB will be in the gym sweating away this week!!!

Hello, firstly do pass my congratulations to your daughter on her results! She must be mighty pleased, I hope you all had a good celebration! We have another two months before L goes off to university! Her mum thinks the pair of us are as thick as thieves. She is the nosiest member of the household! So we can't help but miss her! Her brother is more quiet and reflective so he'll probably welcome the peace!

I can't reply to H2g2 at home, so I'm afraid I couldn't answer you earlier! Can you remind me when you go on your hols, as I can't remember! Eric has sent me on your details, so I'll send you some info, but unlikley today or tomorrow as I'm flat as a strap with work right now!

Wow two CD players in a car, that's flashy, have I misunderstood?

I could have been knocked down with a feather yesterday, H suggested going to the classic car show at Knebworth, she hates these things! I don't always care for them myself, never understand what motivates people to retsore a car to the point where even the underside is polished, and thyen sit around for a couple of days beside it on folding chairs! Anyway we went down in the Minor, but as our is quite tatty left it far away! Had a good luck at the cars for sale as I'm thinking of buying H and MG for her birthday! She rather liked an immaculate Thunderbird that was there, and a beautifully restore Merc convertible! They were rather more the I was budgetting the chap wnated over £25000 for the Thunderbird, I thought he was full of B*llsh*t so I walked away. Anway a bit of exercise walking around, and I learnt a few things!

I feel very relaxed after the long week-end, unfortunately the feeling is not going to last!

Hi Ian just came back for a quick coffee, so switched on to see any updates. Yes you did misunderstand me i only have 1 cd player, and i can't even figure that one out let alone 2! Mal enjoys going round classic car shows they sometimes have old rstored bikes there too. Mals crap saab is on the web page of the saab owners club and he now wishes to restore that!!! Yuk yuk and triple yuk! Don't get me wrong though when it comes to cars i am as pratical as you can get, if it has 4 wheels and drives that will do for me. The only car we ever possessed that i fell in love was a porsche it was the old b reg but she was a dream and i felt a million dollars in her....he sold it for the yuk saab....i mean what a dreadful mistake!! Now i know you are going to ask what model and for the life of me i can't remember i think it was a 944 but could be wrong so later i may be corecting myself. Pillar box red lush.
I miss Shelley already even though she is the quietest of the pair, she is still my very best friend and god help that knob that has upset her like this i feel like i want to get him by the b------ks and make sure he does not get any pleasure out of them again!!! Cool it Diane he is not worth it!!!

Ah yes I've had a red Merc, and a tuned hatchback in red, they looked mighty fine polished up! I think I'd rather have a Porsche then a Saab, but the latter is probably more practical! I saw your post on H and N, it's been very quiet there for a while. Matters of diet are being put to one side during the school hols I expect!

When facing the recent repair bills and unreliability I tend to the same view on cars as you! However i do like my toys too, so when I'm feeling less poor, I will buy some new toys!

I only work part time right now, so can't justify burning a load of the company money on a new motor!

Oh well back to the software.

I didn't understand your last note on Shelley?

OK i will explain about my beautiful daughter, she is a stunner and i am not just saying that because she is my daughter either, she really is she is 5ft 9 a figure to die for and the looks and personality too.
She has been seeing this lad for19 months and they were serious too. This lad becme like a second son to me and stayed at ours more than his own. He had his own bedroom and i did all his washing etc etc., more fool me i know. Anyway they split for about 2 months around about may time, the reason for the split was shelley felt that he had taken her for granted and the romance had gone, he was mortified and couldn't come to terms with losing her. We also felt the loss and i was there for them both. Anyway he tried eveything from sending £60 of flowers, letters that drove us all to tears. I told him to lay quiet for a while and let her decide for herself if she really did want him back. Bingo it worked and it was on again, this time Shelley said she felt great and that he had changed for the better. They booked a holiday to Spain due to fly this Monday. Cost £550, we borrowed her £200 and he borrowed her the £350. That was 4 weeks ago now. So all going well until 2 weeks ago, when behind her back he went and had sex with an old flame of his, he got found out and admitted all, so its off permanently this time. I feel he has done the dirty on me too!! So she was meant to be in spain now and is not, she is broken hearted, so she is staying with family to help her to try and come to terms with what this rat has done. They were due to open a bank account together so they could start saving for a mortage. She has had a lucky escape. And as for paying him back the £350 well he can take a run and jump! He has still gone as some of his mates were going too. I know she is still young but i can't say anything as i have been with mal since i was 15. smiley - love Diane xxx

I'm glad I'm not that age myself anymore!
