Moving On Started conversation Oct 24, 2005
I have just tried to susbscribe to the penis thread - I am, if nothing else an inveterate lurker, after all.
It appears I have a choice -
Subscribe...and have the post repeated ad nausium on the left hand side of my PS, thus removing all the other threads I'm subscribed to
OR
Click ONE of the ad nausium penis thread convos to unsubscribe...and end up not being subscribed atall.
I mean, for godsakes, I only want to follow the thread - I have no intention of discussing my own joys and preferences, but I do admit to being curious about others', and if they're willing to discuss it in an adult manner, then fine. I may learn something, after all. Not that I have, *so* far, but you never know.
What is this? What is going pear shaped with this site?
I'm quite aware there is absolutely no point in looking at the menu when you're on a diet - after all, why torment oneself for something in which one isn't currently participating? (As Ronnie Barker said, What? With these feet?)
But.... taking a healthy interest (honest guv) shouldn't be as complicated as this.
I bet if I tried subscribing to one of the awful god debating threads that seem to be so damned prevelent lately I wouldn't have any problems subscribing!
It's a sign
But what it's a sign *of* I really couldn't say

I was always going to suggest that we be able to subcribe to ONE thread within ASK rather than all or nothing.
This reminds me!
I will have to find the suggestions area.
I will let you know where the thread is when I do.
If you find it first let me knowI know it is on the Feedback Page.
Several people on dial-up or low on energy would greatly appreciate it! I do not know if it is technically possible.

Seems they have done it!
I think you can subscribe to one thread instead of all the threads on ASK I have a couple without all
The Chat and Forum still bring up each new thread.
Time will tell for sure, not been around as much so I am not totally sure.

Cheers Abbi - I'll try it again a bit later on today and see if I can just get that one thread up instead of a complete "contents"

Voila!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/F19585?thread=617351&post=15238913#p15238913 Assuming it works, i am really not very good at this sort of thing! Maybe the easiest way is simply to

If 'twere *just* naughty talk, I don't think I'd be too fussed about following it!
But I'm finding, even now, that if I "click to subscribe to this convo" the PC just glares sullenly at me and simply refuses to subscribe.
Still... no problemo - now I've got the link I can click on that and catch up with the backlog as and when I choose to, so cheers
Oh yes...

Maybe your PC is a bit of a prude & doesn't like the idea of you subscibing to a convo with the word *shock*horror* penis in it!!!

I think you're probably right...
it doesn't seem to mind if I suscribe to any other thread, but this one ..well.. it sort of chokes on it.
if you see what I mean!

I am merely lying back and thinking of England, as all decent ladies do when their Beast goes down on them.
*It might be more useful to think of Japan, since most computers are made there*

Personally I find threatening it with a hammer f-a-a-r more theraputic myself!
Are you claiming to be a decent lady then, Terri? I don't think I could claim to be one of them without sniggering immediately after I'd said it thus banjaxing the illusion.
I make up for it by being one helluva woman, instead

zendevil Posted Nov 4, 2005
But of course i am a decent lady. I am also capable of producing special effects amongst roomfuls of French people when i announce "MOI? je suis innocent!" with my most demure expression.

Hmmf, the only race the French are worldly in is the Tour De France i think!
They do have the highest proportion of depressive men on earth though & i seem to remember that is actually officially confirmed, so it's not just my bad luck that i pick types, nor even that they were
till they met me!
I've asked various frogmen why they think this is, most reckon the problem is that they have to cope (poor dears) with not only Being A Male, but Catholic Guilt plus Mother Worship plus French Men Are Ze Best Lovers in Ze World ....so basically they just sit in the corner & & wait for some nice decent(!) lady to come along & tell them how beautiful they are. They perk up nicely then, especially if you feed them. It's a bit like looking after petunias.

I don't think male emotional inadequacy is confined just to the French tho - if *anyone* reckons they "ought" to live up to an ideal/image as shallow as that, then they need to look seriously at how daft the "image" is and rethink things. Blaming outside influences is just a cop out!
It sometimes works if they look all helpless and spaniel like at us strong women - but we learn
I'd agree with you about the Catholic/guilt trip thing tho; broardly speaking, the catholic blokes I've known were either well hung up on the Madonna/Whore thing
...or incrediably well adjusted heathens.

Sorry, I'm a chronic lurker.
Terri, the petunias comment made me fall on the floor in spasm while spluttering beer...
Evadne - nice to meet you, if we've not met before.

Moving On Posted Nov 4, 2005
Lurk away Ivan!
The petunia comment made me grin, too - lucky you to have a beer to sputter - I just drowned my keyboard in cold tea, which didn't have quite the same panache!
H'mm
zendevil Posted Nov 4, 2005
Oooh dear, i am drowning keyboards across the globe!!!
Evadne, you will be delighted to get acquainted with Ivan He is so fantastically charming he gets stalked by kangaroos who accompany him to the
!
*sigh* the madonna/whore thing definitely exists, yes, i am getting fed up with being told "but you are my best friend" well jolly good mate, i don't see why this means i can't be rampantly naughty with you also, ye gods, when i was about 6 yrs old best friends did this sort of thing all the time! Pull the other one mate; it's got bells on!
