He just caught that before going off the the pub to get him his first Man (and, I should add, legal) pint... he and his brother have just gone to get the seats warm...

That was nice of you mate - thanks!

Must smiley - run He's got more in his bank account (for today, anyway) than I have, so I'm going to get in there, rapid!

Fair play to him, after I'd bought the first round in, he paid for the rest.smiley - cheers

And frankly... I think he's REALLY going to pay very heavilly tomorrow morning. His mates have organised him a party - and we're talking seriously big, well organised ones!

Oh to be young and affluent... and really stupid and carefree again!

Ah well, one down, one to go - it's Tom's turn next year to be 18.

(And the year after that, I'll be 50smiley - sadface)

But on the plus side, I ALWAYS have a party when I get a zero at the end of my age, so I'd better start saving for that, too!

what a day!!!

(Sigh)

You're right about it being "What a Day" Smurfles....there was my eldest, flying high and happy yesterday, all excited, he's got a job, he's Man of the House, and eighteen.... today, he got a phone call from his boss - they'd taken him on trial basis, and after discussing it, his bosses have to let him go, because they don't think he's physically capeable of keeping up.

What a kick for the lad - honestly, my heart goes out to him.

The firm parted with him on good terms - they've said they'll give him a good reference, and all that, and it wasn't because they didn't find him a willing worker... they just don't think he's cut out for their line of work, thats all.

But he spent 18 months trying to find work - this is the apparently affluent south -and now this.

What a way to begin your first year of apparent adult hood.

hey ev,smiley - cheerup. It must be meant to be,and he'll probably find a much better job in thee near future.
I think there's a reason for everything, although sometimes it's hard to work out,but if he believes in himself, then he'll do okay.
That doesn't mean i don't feel sorry for him, would he have had to have a pay rise now he's 18?????
Mmmmmmmm,i wonder?
smiley - hugs for both of you.

Naw... nothing quite as political as avoiding payrises, Sal, but I know what you mean. smiley - winkeye

He was on a month's trial, and the bosses decided after a couple of weeks he wasn't quite right for the job....if the truth is told, Sal, he does't have an awful lot of stamina - willing and able enough, but not a lot of oomph. And he won't do anything about it

I'm a great believer in fate, too - but unfortunately, young Laddybuck isn't quite so philisophical as us bright women are... he's taken it all very very personally and, bless him, he hasn't got much belief in anything, least of all himself - which is half the problem, really.

So I'llgive him a couple of days to drip around in self pity and misery, and then if he hasn't pulled himself together, I'll have to start a bit of Tough Love, and get him to get motivated the hard way

He did say, if all else failed, he'd go and join the Army and find a trade with them...

but honestly Sal.... I'm not knocking the Army, but I *am* deeply suspicious of how our Armed Forces are going to be utilised by the gvnt in the next few years.

I didn't go thru a 50 hour dry labour and 18 years of hard work just to have my kid used as ammunition for someone else's fight.

That wasn't in the plan atall.

smiley - hug Sorry mate, rant over.

Did you get some peace and quiet atall over the weekend?

what a day!!!

Good morning ev.i know exactly what you mean.Something like this is forced to make a dent in his self confidence, bless him.I don't think i'd want him to go in to the army either. He can at least sign on now,as he's 18,so it will give him a bit of cash until he finds something, and i'm sure it won't be long before he does.
Don't apologise for the rant love,i feel for my lot when things go wrong for them too, that's what been a mum's all about!

As for the quiet...it wasn't a bad evening, school today ,so sundays always busy indoor activity for most round here.
I went in the garden last night, took me cupa tea,and sat on the bench watching the sprinkler watering the garden, and the frogs hopping about,it was lovely....and it was cool!!

what a day!!!
