Hi, Old Goat. I just don't want to argue on the A&Q with the risk of being called a nitpicker, but may I ask, native speaker, do you ever say 'the pain shoots aside', when speaking about a shooting pain? It's about Irena's thread 'shooting pain' http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mble/F2712585?thread=4798795 I read: 1. thread about 'shooting pain'. 2. but it shoots aside. Do you say that? I think Irena, who seemed so bitter and jealous

Hi Kirsti,
Did you notice that? I was shocked when I read her message. I decided not to answer her message to me because if I had done so, it would have seemed that two women are arguing and quarrelling because of a man. I even don't know who is Robert, and even if I know, what I'm very well into is learning and improving my English. He is a dear teacher, like OG, LF, you, bluepearl, wes and all thje others, that's it. I feel sorry because she thinks so.

Hi, Raneem. Yes, I think I would have been blind if I hadn't seen that Irina thought you always got the answers and not she. In fact she asks all the time and I am rather sure she has got more answers during the last few weeks than you. She is less patient than you. If she doesn't get an answer she asks again very fast.
What is a pity is that sometimes the MB turns to a dialogue. I think the more different points of view there are, the better.
Have a good evening!

Hi Kirsti.
No, I've never heard a shooting pain described in this way.
The essence of a shooting pain has not been identified or usefully described on that conversation thread. A shooting pain has two components: Sharp pain and fast movement. From personal experience I can say that the the movement can be so sharp and so fast that it is indeed nothing more than a sensation. A sensation. In and of itself not necessarily huge or life-stopping or immensely painful. If the case to be described IS huge or life-stopping or immensely painful then additional adjectives are required. A shooting pain is no more and no less than the words imply.
What Irena asks is usually easy to understand and usually simple to answer. But mud wrestling doesn't attract me.

Hi OG,
Where are you? I AM busy because I started the CELTA, what about you?
I have a canadian guy with me, his accent is not as clear as Fay's accent, every time he speaks, I think of you saying that sure OG's accent is like this one. But surprisingly, e have another Canadian lady, Kathy, but her accent is very clear. It's a fabulous experience really. I'm worn out but at the same time happy.

Hello raneem.
No single accent could be said to be representative of all Canada. The populations of the various regions have quite different origins, particularly linguistically, and different histories. The distances are great enough to allow considerable cultural diversity. Enormous geological and climatic differences also contribute.
The accent with which I came to this country was already very much a mongrel, much influenced by the various dialects and accents extant within the British Island mainland at the time. Ask Kathy and t'other Canuck attending your course where they're from....
<<"It's a fabulous experience really. I'm worn out but at the same time happy.">> I'm elated and pleased for you. I can't help comparing your statement with that of someone on the second day of their honeymoon. As for being worn out, lazybones will do that to a body!

Hi OG,
Good, good OG, I always make you laugh. Really, is this sentence I wrote related to honeymoon? Then, my bridegroom is the CELTA, and I've been married for a week, congratulate me then, for two things; the first is the CELTA,although I'm not sure I'll do well or not, secondly, I'm typing now with my two hands, of course I'm slower than before butI want to train myself on that skill. Today, I learned a lot of vocabulary and expressions from Fay, tomorrow I'll tell you about them as I'll go to sleep now.
Have anice day, it's 11:00 p.m now. What about the time in Canada now, let me count it, you are back in time by 6 hours, so it's 5. p.m in canada now. What do you mean by that Mr energetic?
..
We have scottish lady with us,she told us about how she married, I'll tell you about that tomorrow.
Good night
Bye
