Dmitri is right, of course. I was doing a William Burroughs-style cut-and-paste with http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/16078 Milton on his blindness.

As Blake said, 'Milton, thou shouldst be living with us now.'

Spiff Posted Jan 31, 2012
Okay, I've a feeling my first effort was too obscure - at risk of leaning too far the other way, I'm going for this:
Slough
now
cow
death
No great challenge, but a fantastic group of last words!

The only Slough I know is in Eton Rifles (The Jam). "There's a riot going on down in Slough", or something like that. I didn't think it was the first line, though, and the other words don't seem right.

The big G tells me it's:
Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough!
It isn't fit for humans now,
There isn't grass to graze a cow.
Swarm over, Death!
OK, a new one:
talking

sleepwalking

Ok, you've had long enough. The answer was Oliver's Army by Elvis Costello:
Don’t start me talking
I could talk all night
My mind goes sleepwalking
hen I’m setting the world to right.
I'll throw it open to anyone to post the next one...

Here's one by a poet NOT connected with the Isle of Wight, as far as I know. The last words of the first four lines of one of his famous poems are:
souls
minds
blessings

Hint: He was an ambulance driver in World War I.
