Another couple of things..we have a tag which displays the name of the researcher visiting the page so don't be concerned if you see your name on someone's space that researcher is just using tag..some of them are quite amusing but harmless

And the 'eyes' next to a researchers name show they are online

Thank you for the links. I'm still feeling my way around gingerly at the moment!
Hopefully when the kids go back to school after the Easter break I'll have more time to get used to things here.
Actually, you already answered the question I was going to ask (ie, how do you see other people's journals etc)
I'll get back to you if I think of any others!
