Hi again - sorry I wasn't very chatty last night. Had just got back from the British Unicycle Convention and was a little .
It's so good to find another early Genesis fan - I don't think there are many of us around on here. I have left a couple of posts here and there but no great response.
I was into Genesis first time around at about the time of Wind and Wuthering and PG's first 3 solo albums (and him - I agree !!)but my interest kind of fizzled out with the later stuff. I've been totally obsessed again for the past couple of years though - really into the PG Geneis albums - although W&W is still my favourite - and Afterglow is just my favourite song of all time. My renewal in interest came about through (sad though it may be) going to see a couple of tribute bands - Regenesis and In The Cage. Have you heard of them? They play regularly in the Midlands. It really makes for a fun night out and everyone joins in singing at full volume and shouting out appropriate things - all total nutters of course .
I had a renewal in my obsession with PG too recently - I borrowed the Genesis Songbook DVD (from my the friend who got me into going to the tribute band gigs). There is a tiny bit of footage of Peter aged not much more than about 19 by the looks of it - singing 'Why don't you touch me........' from Musical Box (have you got Nursery Cryme?) - and he was just so sexy!! And gorgeous. His voice does things to me. I love the opening lines of Dancing with the Moonlit Knight - sends shivers down my spine! And I love Firth of Fifth, Cinema Show, Suppers Ready, all of the Lamb and, of course, Solsbury Hill. He's just............. Sorry - I could go on forever about this stuff.
Anyway - good to meet you. Chat more soon,
Love Jan
(I like that smiley too!)

Hey Jan
Yeah his voice just goes to places I can't mention here! Don't know why but it adds a whole layer of interest to his music! I think my favourite early Genesis album is either The Lamb, or Selling England by the Pound. I heard "Selling" years ago, my Dad had a really dodgy pirate tape from Singapore or somewhere, and it had most of the album on it (and Terminal Frost by Pink Floyd on the other side, interesting combination...)I would have been about 12 or 13 and just went "Wow!" Then forgot about it, as you do. At the time I was just getting into Floyd but also was deeply mad about (of all people) the Pet Shop Boys Grew out of that though. Then Peter did "Us" and I was hooked I guess. I always had liked later Genesis anyway, but the early stuff just gets into your head and does odd things, bit like early Floyd. I have to say though, I think the new album is possibly my favourite. Not quite sure yet but Signal to Noise is like and Darkness, well, PG does Nine Inch Nails??? (Another band I like, I have quite, well, broad tastes) Growing Up you can dance to and the Barry Williams Show is smart, funny, rocks like a b*****d and has a great video, with The Man looking rather fetching. Even with a shiny pate! I'm just listening to "Up" again and that voice........
Sorry.
I think I'll go and have a lie down with a cool compress on my forehead for a bit...

BTW, there's a reason for the rainbow smiley...another time perhaps?

You'll have to tell me about the rainbow thing now!!
I just like rainbows - I'm just an aging hippie I guess.

Ok, it's actually my second name. But don't shout or they'll all want one! Got my ticket today! 19th May at the NEC. It's costing me a fortune (night in a hotel etc) but I thought "what the hell." Speak to you soon, got to go and do some work....

Rainbow is your surname?! Or your middle name? Sounds whichever.
Why do you have to stay in a hotel for the concert? We are about the same distance the other way and we aren't bothering staying over. (Especially seeing as it's a Monday.) Where is your seat? We're in Block L. Just been listening to Up - getting in the mood. Only 3 weeks to go -

My surname! I've got used to it over the last 25 years, but it's really annoying when people ask you how to spell it! I'm having to stop over because there are aren't any late trains back from Birmingham, believe it or not. The last one goes at 10.30pm and I don't think I'd make that one as it doesn't kick off till 7.30. I'd drive but I quite like my car and don't like the NEC car parks...I've heard some real horror stories over the last few years. Any suggestions would be appreciated though! National Express don't run a late service either. I'm sitting in Block 02 Row U, God knows where that is. Probably right at the back, usually the case as I'm only 5'4" and always sit behind the guy with big hair who's 7'! By the way, do you know if we can take cameras in? Hope so. I'm not going to risk my decent Canon SLR but I've got a throwaway one that needs using.
Catch you later

I'm starting to get really excited now!!! Am trying to find a PG T-shirt but having no luck. Was thinking about painting my face like Monkeyman but have decided it's a bridge too far! And they might not let me back into the hotel!
Have just bought Wind and Wuthering, and a Trick of the Tail. Can't decide which I like best yet. Need to live with them for a while before passing judgment. See you soon

Hi Helen - sorry, I hadn't noticed your previous post! I'm not sure about cameras - I'll try to find out.
Good to hear you are broadening your Genesis experience - those two albums are both ones I would say are perfect - they couldn't have made them better if they tried. They are the sort of albums you can just listen to over and over (and I frequently do!) without tiring of any of the tracks. But Wind and Wuthering is still my favourite.
Are there no PG T-shirts on his website? Spose it would take too long for one to get to you now though.
Happy listening!

Hi - getting excited?!!!!
I can't believe it's really happening tomorrow - the time just seems to have flown by.
I checked my ticket and there are definitely no cameras allowed. The show sounds absolutely amazing - there was a review in today's Observer and it looks like it's going to be a once in a lifetime experience!

Oh yeah! Fantastic! I was sitting next to this girl though who looked SO BORED!!! I couldn't believe her. Didn't stop me though - Solsbury Hill I was jumping up & down, singing, waving my arms around etc!!!
Did you get a program - I did but I still can't believe I paid £15 for it though. I must be bonkers...and £30 for a long-sleeve t-shirt...Aargh! So glad they did Signal to Noise, I love that track. Wasn't David Rhodes fab???? What a guitar player. Couple of songs he was just totally rocked out... and Tony L was just as cool as always. Can't wait for the next album now...

My friend got a program (it's sitting on my coffee table for the moment) - he also succumbed to a t-shirt but I thought PG looked too much like Davros from Dr.Who in the photo they used on them! (I still prefer to remember him how he looked in his early twenties.) I thought all the musicians were incredibly talented. Rachel Z was pretty and Tony is always spot on. It's a night I'll remember for a long, long time.
Hope the new album makes it out a bit quicker than Up! Not sure about the / in the title though - I get the input/output thing - but seeing as Io is one of Jupiter's moons it would be neat to just leave it at that (without the /)
Do you think there'll be a sudden increase in the sales of Zorbing days after this? Check out www.zorb.com - weird people!

I'm still listening to the album like mad, but whats really is that now I have pictures to put with it! I'll have a look at that zorb thing. I loved it when he was making the ball bounce in time to the music, that was hilarious! Wonder if this tour will come out on DVD?
Yeah, I/O looks kind of weird, IO would be better, but knowing Peter he'll probably have come up with something totally different! I agree about the T-shirt, he looks a bit scary, I liked him best around "So" or the Secret World tour with that goatee...
BTW, sorry to have been a while, RW life has been interfering! Don't tell my new boyfriend I said that though!!!

I liked him best around about the time of Nursery Cryme! If you ever get a chance to see the Genesis Songbook DVD - just hit pause around about the time he sings "touch me". Mmmm. (Must go and borrow that DVD again!)
Congratulations on the new boyfriend - is he a PG + Genesis fan too?
