Hi there, I see you are into art and crafts. Ceramics - very cool. I did some ceramics way back in high school, but none since, and I miss it. Have actually been thinking of taking a ceramics class through continuing education. I do some painting. Right now I'm working on a large sun canvas - a copy of a Laurel Burch. I noticed you were upset that you are the only local you've found from your town. I'm from Memphis, and I have pretty much the same problem, the few pages I've found by Memphians seem to be deserted. Feel free to drop by my page. Bye!

Hi JEllen
You've got some cool stuff going on on your space! Ceramics - my advice is go for it, it's like painting in 3D. I found that the two disciplines complemented each other really well. A bit like Zen navigation too, you don't always end up where you expected but sometimes you're where you needed to be! I don't have a lot of time for it at the moment, or the space unfortunately but here's living in hope!
I've found a couple of Stokies now so I feel a little less lonely which is nice! I'm quite happy to adopt Memphians as well though! My American geography is really bad so tell me about Memphis. I think its in Tennessee (did I spell that OK?) and that's about all I know!

Yes, it's in Tennessee, and yes, you spelled that right! Memphis is located toward the center of the US (that's why the FedEx hub is located here). It's on the Mississippi River. It's a medium size city, very spread out and mostly suburbs. I think the most famous thing about it is that Elvis lived here. Thousands of tourists still flock to Graceland. Memphis is also known for its blues music, and its barbeque. Sheesh, I'm beginning to sound like a tourist brochure, I'd better shut up.

Well, my education has been broadened! Got to be a good thing. Stoke-on-Trent is in Staffordshire, slightly northwest of the middle of the UK. We're famous for pottery, Wedgwood and Royal Doulton (and lots of others) are still made here, and Robbie Williams. Not sure if he's big in the States yet though! It's a fairly small city, between Birmingham and Manchester and much smaller than either. It's made up of the Five Towns - Stoke, Hanley, Longton, Burslem and Tunstall, and sometimes a sixth one (Fenton) is added. Although they're all lumped together under the title Stoke-on-Trent they are all separate and different, with suburby bits in between. That makes it unique (I think) in the UK. There you go, on behalf of Stoke-on-Trent City Council's Tourism Office!

Hi, I've just been poking around in your journal entries. If you want to find people who know about qualifications for engineering, you might try posting to the Askh2g2 thread. You'll reach more people that way, than by a journal entry. My brother is an engineer, but he's an electrical engineer. He was always trying to get me to take engineering classes in college, but I was the artsy impractical one, off making films.
I noticed your other journal entry mentions chit chat on h2g2. So what is your opinion on that? Personally, I thrive on that. I'm glad h2g2 has a fluffy mostly social side, because I don't write many entries!

The chit-chat started in a thread about "dumbing-down" h2g2, which got me thinking about communication generally. I think as long as we keep up the Guide part as exactly that, a real Guide to the Galaxy, and the conversations can complement that then it's . It's nicer than the average chatroom anyway, not my style because eventually some weirdo is going to try and hit on you. Freaky. I haven't written any entries yet, might do one soon but am kicking ideas around at the minute. Did one years ago but I don't know if it made it or not. Think I'll go & check actually while I think about it!
Catch you later
