h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I'm one of the <./>ACEs</.> (Assistant Community Editors). We are a team of volunteers who try to help new researchers for the guide find their way around. You can click on the link I made with that acronym in order to find out more. To find out more about anyone, click on the link made by their nickname (eg at the top of any conversation postings) to go to their personal space. Lurking is quite acceptable on h2g2.

One thing h2g2 has a lot of, as well as researchers, is these <./>Smileys</.>. You can use them in your personal space and other articles, conversations and journal entries. You just type the shortcut text and they appear as if by magic on preview or posting. For example: < blue > without the spaces becomes - no nose but it is very blue!

You said you were on LD (Leisure District). If you are still using a digibox to access h2g2, you may find the site works better in plain skin. Otherwise the box tends to run out of memory displaying all the graphics. Here is a link to let you select plain skin in your Preferences: <./>/dna/h2g2/plain/UserDetails</.>.

There are some places on h2g2 which are especially for LDers. U201567 "The Friends Of LeisureDistrict" has a lot of links. A814303 is a list of LDers to look at or join. You might find some old friends. A913150 "The FoLDers Arms" is a virtual bar where LDers go to socialise when they are online. A909010 is the LDers' quotes section. I couldn't possibly comment but you might want to.

Here are a few more links you might like to try. A660340 is a list of "Clubs and Societies" on h2g2. <./>Askh2g2</.> is a good place to start or join a random conversation. You could try the infinite improbability drive on the "Front Page" if you don't know where you want to go or <./>search</.> if you do. See the guide entries too important to be merely a number at <./>NamedEntries</.>.

Above all, have fun and don't panic. If you do find yourself tempted to panic, click the "h2g2 Help" link on the left. It may help.

Hi SEF, its taken me so long to get back to you, but when i first logged on it was from a link given from a fellow ex LDer, and i was given a lot of help from her, but that does not excuse my lack of courtesy for not replying sooner, after all i was brought up better than that. I was trying to see who my original ace was only the other day but must not of looked far enough down my older convrsations, and i have just noticed that you had shown me the smiley which i already use to sign off with to be honest, i'd had a look at the smiley list and of course found it to be the most appropriate. whoops that was one i'd just had, take you pick it's the least i can do, and as i'm such a generous guy for you as well unless you had the in which case would be more apt. Hello again BlueNoseLD. Nice of you to finally reply. Actually we get used to quite a lot of people not replying because they think these messages are automatically generated by the computer and not from real people at all. It looks like you've been busy and getting around OK in the intervening time and that's what matters.

I posted the message to you and then proceeded to look at your page, upon which i discovered your of smileys, at least this proves i have a sense of humour (twisted it may be, but at least its there)and thought oh ok, no smileys then. As for getting around ok as i said i had a fair bit of help at the start but have now added things to my page and amended what i started with, including adding my own article, trust me i was actually pleased with doing it - i used to be a stores technician installing or reconditioning Hewlett Packard mainframe computers, but never as a user (hardware man not a software man), so to create something from nothing, especially on a digibox i was well pleased, as simple as it may be - why not have a look and let me know A1042101.
