The law is the law, if it is not obeyed equally, by fools and wise men then what use is it.
Unless it is absolute it is not Law but, Rule

Good to see you again. I completely agree with you on that one but many people feel Blair/Bush have other interpretations though I believe we are not allowed to discuss it here (I'm just being devils advocate).
If the quality of the law is not strained (I still don't fully understand what that means) how could it be that there are cases reported where someone stealing a Mars bar gets a bigger sentence than a mugger.
Could it be that the wise men taking guidance of the Law are the Magistrates and they can stretch it like an elastic to suit themselves?.

Methinks you could post this in "Askh2g2", you would get some very thought provoking answers.
Meanwhile, I think the hard part of your last post, about sentencing villains is that the Magistrates, and judges, are just these guys, and if they have a bad day....
