Rivkeh Yankee-Shoes... bashing about the BoE again

I noticed on the Soundtrack of Life thread that you like Switchfoot! They are one of my alltime favorite bands... and have a great message as well.

So I'm assuming you're a Christian too? How long have you been one?

Yes!!!! Switchfoot is my all-time favorite band, too! Which is sort of weird b/c I'm usually into heavier stuff. (Massivivid, Pillar, Thousand Foot Krutch, 38th Paralell, Skillet...) I love them. I love the writing and the composing, they truley speak to me... It's like they know me... Have you heard thier newsest CD?

And yes, I am a Christian. I grew up in a Christian house, so I said the prayer when I was five. Some might think that's too young to mean anything, but I ment it then and I still hold to my convictions. smiley - smiley It's not a very exsiting story, but it' mine. How about you?

{btw, I have a link to my home church on my home page. smiley - winkeye}

I am DYING to get my hands on their newest album, but I owe Sound and Spirit like $50.00. Oops. I have Learning to Breathe (my favorite so far), New Way to be Human, and the Legend of Chin. I like Pillar's Fireproof album (saw them in concert a couple times, last time with Skillet and Justifide... thought Justifide rocked). Have the new 38th Parellel, deciding if I like it or not. Should write it up in the music review on my upage, huh?

I grew up in a Christian home, asked Jesus into my heart at 7, got baptized at 12, but I kinda became this huge angry depressed hypocrite at 15. God never left me though, and at 16 I decided I needed Him not only as savior, but as Lord. Now I'm 21 (tomorrow!) and in full time ministry. smiley - laugh He's sooo awesome!

What do you do for work/fun/life?

OK, You are my new best friend! (Well, on H2G2, anyway... smiley - winkeye)

I have all four Switchfoot albums and I'd have to say the newsest one is now my favorite. They're all amazing, but this one is... well, I heard a reviewer say that this is the album that they've really been wanting to make. If that makes sence. The writing is at thier best and the sound is even more... detailed? Attention to detail and really well produced.

Where are you from? I'm from Winnipeg, MB so we don't get a lot of big bands out here. I am going to the Thousand Foot Krutch & Bleach concert this May. smiley - biggrin In July there is a weekend music fest in a small town a few hours from the city. Pillar, Jars of Clay, Skillet, The Benjamin Gate, Altogether Seperate, Eye Witness and a few more are going to be there.

You should definately write up some reviews. I'll put a link on my page to it if you do. (And if I know how to link that kind of stuff! smiley - laugh) I was thinking of adding some sort of Christian music section on my page sometime.

Happy Birthday!!! smiley - cheesecake (tomorrow) I turned 22 this January. It was a Thursday. (RE: "Let that Be Enough" Weird, huh?) What sort of ministry are you involved in?

What do I do... Well, I work at Investors Group, the largest mutual fund company in Canada. (See link on my page) I actually live out of town so I spend quite a bit of time driving. Hense the need for good CDs. Winnipeg also has a really cool Christian radio station. You can listen on-line if you like. (Again, see link on my page.) Lately I've been spending quite a bit of time with my little/big brother. (five years younger, but considerabley taller...) And my mom. My parent are long divorced and I live with my dad. My mom lived 800 km away for a few years so I didn't see her much. She moved back in the area a couple of years ago and just this winter bough a property in the county five miles from my dad's place. I have a boyfriend, but I don't think we're right for each other. smiley - sadface We've been together for a while, so breaking up will be tricky. But I think it's for the best. I feel like he's be hindering me spiritually, if that makes any sence. I used to teach a two-year-old class at church and was involved on the Youth group and never missed a service, even the Wednesday night ones... before we got together. Now I do nothing. It's depressing me.

Well, this is a very long message so I'm going to stop now. smiley - tongueout Tell me more about yourself...

Rivkeh Yankee-Shoes... bashing about the BoE again

I'm finishing up a two year stint as the director of a touring drama team and spiritual advisor at a private Christian boarding school outside of Lansing, Michigan.

I also am a musician and songwriter, and have my hand in some massage therapy. I'm single, and fairly happy with that most of the time. I listen to a lot of music, being raised in that sort of singing group family it's in my blood.

This summer (after tour) I'm freed from my contract at the school, and I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but I need to save up money to go to South Africa for a while. I have a penpal over there to visit, and some ministry to do, and I think I just need a long trip.

I drink a lot of Slurpees. I've only been to Canada once, to the Stratford Festival to see an Oscar Wilde play. I read a ton. I'm reading the book of Jeremiah and just finished Galations in my devotional times. I hang out at a Christian nightclub smiley - discosmiley - divasmiley - disco. I love coffee. And the ocean. And roadtrips. Last summer I roadtripped to 25 different states.

I hate that in-between knowing you're gonna break up w/ the boy and actually doing it. It's the worst feeling. Don't get depressed! Have some smiley - choc a smiley - hug and some Psalms! There is a light at the end of the tunnel! smiley - cheerup

I was on the drama team at my private Christian high school. It was so much fun! We did a mini-tour with the praise & worship team. Good times...

That is so cool that you write music! smiley - cool I don't think I could do that. I love music and I have a good ear, but not that good. Have you recorded anything? One of the kids in our Youth group has a CD out. His name is Justin Hintz. He's probably a year or two younger than you. I think. smiley - erm

My mom has been a proffesional massage therapist for, uh, eight years now? Seems like forever. She is seriously the best therapist in the province. She has clients that come from miles away. She has so many certificates and titles... she is constantly takeing courses and she teaches some, too. If you're serious about the business and would like to contact her, I could give you her e-mail/mailing address/phone number. She love helping new therapist get a good start.

Well, we just broke up last night, so no bf anymore. We are both really ok with things. Hopefully we'll be friends. I'm actually looking forward to being single for a while. smiley - smiley

I also love reading. I'm on an Asimov kick right now. I've sort of been neglecting my Bible lately. smiley - sadface Now that I'm 'on my own' I plan to get my butt back in gear and smarten up! smiley - smiley

I only drink flavored coffee, mostly mocca. smiley - coffee + smiley - choc! Even though I live in the middle of the prairies, I've always loved going the ocean! I love just listening to the tide. It's so calming. My family travelled a lot when I was a kid. I've been all over the states except for the North-East and three states in the mid-west. We even lived in Mexico for a short while to build a church. smiley - smiley I'm trying to plan a road trip to Florida this summer with a couple of girlfriends of mine. I really hope that works out! I need a vacation!!!

I had a friend in High School who lived in Burkena Faso (SP??) for a few years on missions with his family. Very interesting guy. I've also had a few teachers/proffesors from Africa. There was actually a guy at Bible college who can from Africa on a mission trip to Canada. I found that odd. But I guess missions work both ways! When are you going?
