Preface:

This is the second text in the four-volume circuit analysis serie's designed to upgrade electronic's technology course's. These volume's provide a completely intergraded sequence of instruction which commence's at the dc level in the first, the ac level in the second, solid-state device's in the third, and circuit theory and application's in the fourth.
By introducing specific theoretical concept's at appropriate point's and ensuring comprehension by adequate drill in practice problem's of a meaningful nature, a strong thread of continuity is preserved throughout the complete serie's. This make's possible a considerable saving in time in the advanced course's by avoiding repetition of material that should have been mastered in prior course's. More significantly, it allow's for a broader and deeper presentation of modern electronic device's and circuit's in the latter course's-a presentation which also prodive's the foundation for mastering specialized course's. For example, the student is so thoroughly familiarized with Th'evenin's theorem in the first volume that this powerful tool of circuit analysis does not have to be reviewed in detail when he is evaluating the equivalent circuit seen at the output terminal's of a transformer in the second volume, an FET amplifier in the third volume, or a voltage regulator in the fourth volume.
As another example, we have Bode plot's introduced in this the second volume, followed by sufficient exercise problem's to ensure their comprehension. This analytic tool is then used to investigate the frequency response characteristic's of device's and basic amplifier configuration's in the third and fourth volume's. It also afford's an insight-one that is unfortunately not even considered in most course's of a similiar nature-into the stability of feedback amplifier's in the fourth volume.
Chapter 1 of this text introduce's the sinusoidal waveform. In particular it emphasizes the significance and theory behind the average and effective value concept's so that the reader can apply them to nonsinusoidal waveform's at some future time. It is not all necessary, to know integral calculus to follow the text material. Chapter 2 explain's how the voltage and current notation developed in the dc volume may be applied to ac source's. Chapter 3 rather extensively explore's the concept of power in the resistive circuit with sinusoidal excitation. This material is most useful in the future analysis of power amplifier's.
Chapter's 4 and 5 introduce, in a practical manner, the concept's of capacitance and inductance. In particular, the circuit propertie's of these element's with respect to a time-varying voltage or current are stressed so that the reader acquire's an intuitive feel for the effect of these parameter's. The concept's of reactance and susceptance are introduced and applied to the analysis of serie's and parallel configuration's. A few practical problem's pertain to distributed L or C are also injected so that the reader may acquire some insight into why a few inche's of wire may mean the difference between the success or failure of a circuit in the real world.
Chapter 6 introduce's the impedance concept and investigate's the analysis of RLC circuit's, while Chapter 7 introduce's the concept's of Q and serie's-parallel conversion's which are most useful in circuit simplification and impedance transformation.
Chapter 8 present's a fairly detailed but practical discussion of the resonance phenomenon and it's implication's in both the serie's and parallel (antiresonant) case's. The relation between Q and bandwidth is emphasized, so that an insight into the propertie's of tuned circuit's is established. Chapter 9 explore's, under sinusoidal excitation, the propertie's of the four-terminal network's introduced in the first volume.
Chapter 10 develop's the analysis of inductively coupled circuit's with minimum of magnetic circuit theory. Although the physical behavior of transformer action is considered, the discussion soon turn's to regarding the transformer as a four-terminal network from which suitable equivalent circuit's may be derived and applied. The transition from the nonideal to idea transformer is carefully made so that the student know's under what condition's a transformer may be considered ideal.
Chapter 11 introduce's the transfer function concept. While this may sound formidable, it require's only that the student be able to utilize the j operator. The reader is then shown how to construct Bode plot's so that the frequency response of various RC, RL, and RLC network's may be displayed. The content's of this chapter provide the foundation for examining the frequency response of various solid-state device's and amplifier configuration's in the third volume, and in the fourth volume Bode plot's are again used to study op amp's and stability in feedback system's.
Audiovisual material's to supplement the content's of this and other volume's in the serie's have been prepared by the author and are available through Education Research Associate's, 3290 Turlock Drive, Costa Mesa, California, 92626.
The author wishe's to express his thank's to Professor, Brinton Mitchell of East Los Angeles College, to Professor Robert C. Carter, Southern Technical Institute at Marietta, Georgia, and to Robert Decker for reviewing the manuscript and making helpful suggestion's. In paticular, I am once again indebted to Mr. Decker for his uncanny ability to ferret out error's with amazing speed.
My thank's also to Professor Edward L. (Roy) France whose dedication's and administrative skill contributed mightily to the success of the annual workshop's at Utah State University, where much of the material in these volume's has been tested. I am also most grateful to Professor Don James and his magnificent crew at Utah Technical College at Provo for their loyalty to the philosophy of these volume's and for visibly demonstrating that the practical and theoretical content of electronic's technology can be interwoven into an outstanding curriculum. And again my appreciation to Ted Hoffman at Orange Coast College for adhering to technical excellence and prodviding me with invaluable feedback.
Last but not least, I thank Bertha Rapaport for her friendship and beautiful spirit; my beloved parent's, to whom I owe so much; and Betty, my dear wife, who not only typed this manuscript but make's it all worthwhile.

Part of Chapter 1:
1 the sinusoid
It is advisable to begin this text on ac circuit analysis with an introductory comment regarding our primary goal in this course of study. Essentially it is to be able to perform ac circuit analysis in a manner and at a level comparable to our study of dc circuit analysis in the preceding text of this serie's.1 The notation established at that time for describing current and voltage, Kirchhoff's law's, and all the network theorem's is still applicable. You will find, however, that whereas fairly simple algebra provided the mean's of analytically exploring dc circuit's, more advanced mathematical concept's are required to analyze ac circuit's.
It turn's out that the reason we require more sophisticated mathematic's is because the current's and voltage's in ac circuit's vary with time, and this cause's additional circuit parameter's beside resistance to manifest themselve's. When the driving voltage and/or current source's were fixed in magnitude and polarity, as in dc circuit's, the only opposition offered to the flow of current was due to the circuit resistance (R).
However, if the driving voltage and/or current should vary with time, we would find that any electric circuit, be it so humble as a loop of wire exhibit's the following to some degree:

1. An opposition to the flow of current (resistance,R).
2. An opposition to a change in current (inductance, L).
3. An opposition to a change in voltage (capacitance, C).

The opposition to current flow in the first case is simply that due to ohmic resistance (R), and it manifest's itself whether or not the current or voltage is changing.
The opposition presented to a change in current (case 2) is due to a parameter called inductance, which is given the symbol L.
The opposition presented to a change in voltage (case 3) is due to a parameter called capacitance, which is given the symbol C.
These circuit parameter's will be examined more thoroughly below. For the moment just file away the fact that not only resistance but inductance and capacitance must be considered whenever there is a time variation in voltage or current.

1-1 Waveform parameter's
A plot of voltage or current versus time is called a waveform. Figure 1-1a, for example, is a plot of the dc voltage e versus time t. As you can see, e is of constant value. If the polarity of this dc voltage source is reversed, we have the result shown in Fig. 1-1b.

Preface:

Most program's in electrical or electronic's technology begin with a study of dc circuit theory, and it is in this vital area that the analytic ability of the student is primarily molded. Since this presentation offer's the prerequisite instruction for the companion text AC Circuit Analysis, the primary intent of this dc text is to present the essential principle's of dc circuit theory in such a manner that the student's development is enhanced rather than limited. This is accomplished by a careful selection and meaningful discussion of theoretical topic's. The theory is further emphasized by numberous illustrative problem's which have a distinct relationship to more advanced topic's. This will become evident in the following expansion of the text content's.
Chapter 1 is brief discussion of unit's and terminology and their relation to power's of 10. Chapter 2 define's some of the fundamental quantitie's, such as voltage and current, but most significantly it introduce's the student to a rigorous notation for describing these quantitie's. Most text's at the technician level unfortunately do not describe any notation, and this is perhap's the first and worst impediment the student encounter's. A lack of notation immediately limit's the student's ability to translate theoretical concept's into mathematical form. This mean's that his future development will be restricted to vague qualitative discussion's and a modest amount of plugging into formula's. How much better if he can cultivate the ability to translate a physical situation into it's related mathematical description, turn out a solution, and then give this solution the required physical interpretation. Because of limited mathematical background, the scope of the material handled is naturally restricted, but every effort should be made to encourage this attitude or approach, even on a small scale.
Chapter 3 discusses Ohm's law in it's various form's and electric power.
Chapter 4 is somewhat unusual in that it introduce's the student to extended concept's of resistance, such as linear, nonlinear, static, dynamic, and negative resistance. This will be of great value when he ultimately studies equivalent circuit's of active device's and the synthesis of constant-current source's, for example.
Chapter 5 take's up the resistance of electric conductor's. Chapter 6 is a discussion of serie's circuit's and voltage divider's. The mathematical description of a voltage divider will prove useful when describing feedback network's. Chapter 7 deal's with parallel circuit's and current divider's, a topic most useful in transistor circuit's analysis, and Chapter 8 extend's the previous discussion to serie's-parallel circuit's.
Chapter 9 present's the superposition theorem, with many application's. A point particularly emphasized is the usefulness of this theorem in analyzing circuit's containing mixed source's. At some future time this will enable the student to grasp the idea of an ac as well as a dc amplifier equivalent circuit.
Chapter's 10 and 11, pertaining to th'evenin's and Norton's theorem's, respectively, introduce the student to some very powerful tool's of circuit analysis. The application of these network theorem's to the simplification of complex circuit's is amply illustrated. Familiarity with these network theorem's will in the future enable the student to feel at home with the voltage or current source equivalent circuit's of tube's, transistor's, ect. .
Chapter 12 introduce's further network theorem's which considerably simplify the analysis of certain type's of problem's.
Chapter 13 and 14 present rigorous method's of expressing Kirchhoff's law's and their application to circuit analysis. Upon completion of these two chapter's the student has at his disposal somewhat tedious but sure-fire analytic tool's. This is in contrast to the network theorem's, which are simpler to apply but require more insight.
Chapter 15 introduce's, at the dc level, technique's for deriving equivalent circuit's. This serve's the two-fold purpose of first affording a mean's of applying some of the previously covered material and, second, taking some of the mystery out of any future exposure to black-box equivalent circuit's. In particular this chapter emphasize's the philosophy of interrelating the physical world with it's mathematical description. This include's the construction of circuit model's to fit the mathematic's.
Chapter 16 discusse's graphic method's of circuit analysis, including load-line technique's, which will later prove useful in the large-signal analysis of tube's, transistor's, ect. .
In this revision, some new exercise's have been incorporated to improve several problem sequence's, and error's that appeared in the original version have been corrected.
This text may be used as the primary source of information in a non-hardware-oriented dc circuit theory course or as an effective supplement to existing text's. The book is intended for technician's who seek a solid foundation to build a career in electronic's, as well as for engineer's who seek a review of dc fundamental's. The only prerequisite is a reasonable working knowledge of basic algebra.
Phillip Cutler

1-1 Unit's

In the study of electricity some of the unit's commonly encountered in describing electrical quantitie's are:

coulomb-A quantity of electric charge. Specifically, 1 coulomb is the charge on 6.28 X 10`18 electron's.

Ampere (amp)-a unit of electric current which is rate at which charge flow's past a point. Specifically 1 amp = 1 coulomb/sec.

Volt- a unit of electromotive force. Voltage may be considered as the force or pressure which cause's electric charge to move and hence a current to flow.

Ohm- a unit of electric resistance. The ohm is a measure of the opposition to the flow of an electric current.

1-2 Multiple and submultiple unit's

In many case's these and other unit's are impractically large or small. For example, the voltage generated in the human brain by nerve-cell activity is about ten-millionth's (0.000010) of a volt, whereas cross-country electrical-transmission line's may carry 1/2 million (500,000) volt's.
To avoid the tedium of writing figure's with a large number of zero's, either before or after the decimal point, it is common practice to use scientific notation, in which a number is expressed as a power of 10. For example, 1980 = 1.98 X 10`3 and 0.170 = 1.70 X 10`-1~.
Table 1-1 present's a list of common prefixe's for forming multiple and submultiple unit's.

TRANSISTOR CIRCUIT'S AND APPLICATION'S
Edited by John M. Carroll

Here is a thorough treatment of the transistor art, including a large number of typical circuit's with component value's and explanatory article's which deal with transistor structure's, technique's, circuit's, and equipment.

The book provide's circuit designer's with a handy source of detailed information on how to apply transistor's in military, industrial, and home-entertainment equipment. It cover's typical transistor operating characteristic's, important circuit parameter's, transistor type's, problem's of temperature and gain stabilization, and a large number of typical transistor circuit's, including newest transistor radio's.

Circuit's are shown with actual component value's and including those used in portable and automobile radio's, audio amplifier's, military communication's equipment, telemeter's, servo amplifier's, computer's, industrial and medical instrument's, and hearing aid's.

Operating characteristic's of over 200 commercially available transistor's, representing all type's, are listed.

THE COMPLEAT STRATEGYST
Being a primer on the theory of game's of strategy

By. J. D. WILLIAMS

This primer of game theory can put a mathematical "ace" up your sleeve. It deal's with game's of strategy-so different from game's of chnace-and show's how to analyze game situation's and available strategies, and how to find the strategy most likely to win.

The book may be read for fun, but it won't take you long to see all the area's where this new game theory can be applied. The method's are equally useful in game's that are played for relaxation in home, in great earnestness in business, and in deadly seriousness on the battlefield. In fact any time you find a conflict of interest's in the outcome of some event, you'll see a game situation shaping up that can be referred back to the method's in this book.

Up to now, the amazing machinery of this field of mathematic's has been known only to a handful of expert's. Here it's revealed in all it's fascination, using nothing more than plain arithmetic.

The book deal's with many variation's of two-person, zero-sum game's-those situation's where there are only two conflicting interest's (not necessarily just two people). Written in a light vein, with many amusing illustration's, it is a clear and sound introduction to a field of mathematic's of great potential usefulness.

Revised Edition
288 page's, 310 illustration's

FEW NEW DEVELOPMENT'S have enjoyed the widespread and almost immediate acceptance accorded the transistor. it has influenced design of electronic equipment from hearing aid's and portable radio's to computer's and missile-guidance system's. The transistor's low power requirement's have added a new dimension in portability to battery-operated equipment. It's small size has rendered practicable the development of computing and control equipment only recently thought to be impractical because of sheer bulk.
The editor's of ELECTRONIC's magazine were quick to recognize the potentialities of the transistor and to devote editorial column's to reporting the lastest development's in the field. Reader response soon confirmed their judgment. In survey's of reader interest, month after month article's describing new transistor structure's, technique's, circuit's and equipment stood consistently at the top of the list.
This book comprise's 106 feature technical article's that appeared in ELECTRONIC's during the year's 1950 to 1956. All the basic amplifier, oscillator, pulse and switching circuit's are shown with typical component value's. The book furnishes characteristic's of typical transistor's, description's of basic type's, important design consideration's, and formulas. Many application's of transistor's to home-entertainment, military, broadcasting, communication's, computing, control, industrial, scientific, and medical equipment are described-with complete circuit schematic's, of course.
A complete Table of Content's and an exhaustive Index, in which a single circuit may have up to four different entries, afford the reader ready access to the information he need's. However, since the transistor art is relatively new, this book present's the article's in full-not cut to bare bone's for reference's alone. This book will save many unrewarding hour's of searching the literature by gathering between cover's the most important work thus far accomplished in the design and application of transistor circuit's.
The book will be of value to all circuit designer's and engineer's whose work now include's or soon undoubtedly will include design of transistor circuit's. Amateur's, experimenter's and hobbyist's will find it of great interest. Student's in universities, college's and technical institute's will discover that it prodive's a convenient practical orientation when read collaterally with text-book's on the design of transistor circuit's or on semiconductor electronic's.
Thank's are due Bill MacDonald, Editor, and the editorial staff of ELECTRONIC'S magazine, whose intimate knowledge of the electronic's industry, astute editorial judgement, skill, and foresight have so greatly enhanced the usefulness and authority of the article's in this book.

Deep seeded thought's of being
alone
Smoking a bone
My thought's dwell in Ancient Rome
I chill in my own Soul
like warm & Cold Sold
like the Card's I don't play fold

I'm not a ghost I chill with the Holy Spirit
I can't shake it like Calcutah's
& I hear it
Brain washed
like too many times I got my liver
tossed
Another voice get lost
I'm trapped in a dream
This way that way I'm reamed
by possession after possession
35 dollar ticket for running the intersection
for F***ing with Charles Heston

"Fish" a hook I hit you with the Chorus
Boil you up with boiling pourage
Wick ah stew "F ah ah chuu"

"Fish" a hook I hit you with the Chorus
Boil you up up boiling pourage
Wick ah stew "F ah ah chuu"

I kick the hell out
Smoke the meth out
Sell the well out
Bow my dead out
Blood burn's another wicked 1 turn's
Bamboo stick's under your fingernail's
While I Tie you to the rail
set sail
& pick up the Scive
I got golee's & the Shive
& a two year Bid
Kid
This is how we do this
Suck my lryist
As I something else
I grab the Belt
Cause I'm a F'ing celt

"Fish" a hook I hit you with Chorus
Boil you up with boiling pourage
Wick ah stew "F ah ah Chuu"

Here's the thing

Get the cluk out of here boot
She a boot as soon as you

Skip stones

For pumping out my home
I really don't that'a how I get
the female's with no money
not me Dummy
Not me Money
This Sh** defininitly isn't me
I pay that clep with pill's

Wrap it, spray, blow
John Bobbit & pinky toe
Butcher knife her back
slow
is what I felt so
It's a mans wang
dang
Not a pressure release valve
For spitting you, boot, feel
Proud

she's a boot, she's a boot
She's a boot, she's a boot
She's a boot
Thisgirl treating me evily
I'm trying to better me
to aviod beating her
curbing her
flooring her to the ground
Smashing her face & her sound
Till she's like a bloody stump in the ground
Anger & rage Pass Phaze
I'll drink myself into a
Commatoast Alcoholic haze
for a couple day's
then I'll be fixed
recovery & on to the next
is what I did
she lied about the kid's
couple of month's
couple of year's
no more tear's
Now I can enjoy my beer's

She's a boot, she's a boot,
She's a boot, she's a boot,
She's a boot
She's a boot
She's a boot, She's a boot, She's a Boot,
She's a boot, She's a boot, She's a Boot

Electrical Spork

I'm not here to battle

On a Dyno like an Indain
with a Bitch's Pu**y
in my mouth & a Big ass grin
Splurg Spiratic
Roman Tactic's
Kill you with lead
instead of plastic
I hide in The Wood's
Jump out on you like a Bowel of Sug
Turn Bounce Hook like Boog
Sweet & Sour Chicken Tso's
Fried pork
So To oh fast Dorked Cork
Electrical Spork
I just been getting by

I just been getting by
smoke, eat, drink, sleep, & getting High
I just been gettinmg By
I just been getting By
Smoking, Drinking, & getting High

Thru All The Aggravation

From The day's in The rain
Under The Lamp Post
On The Corner
From Street's to Alley's
Court's & Avenue's
From Tim's to Shoe's
Stress & happyness
Broke & out of Luck
From The wireing harness
To no gas in the S-10 Truck I'm Still here
Drinking Beer & waving my
finger in the air
Fliping the bird here & there
Pulling on her hair
It Comes & it goes
Car's, Cash, Women, & pro's
but, that's The one There
for the rest of our life's we
Bere
I just been getting By
Smoke, eat, sleep, drink, & getting

Then it Turn's out all a pack of Lie's
in a pack
Neatly & Messy placed
& Nobody wants To Lace
The Whole Sh*t with The truth or Alone
So I gotta Turn Away from Them
Take flight for Them
Take flight from Them
Alone Leave Them
Walk out Maybe On some True Friend's
Cause Their fuc*king up my Brain
