Coke Withdrawal
Posted Apr 28, 2003
No not the drug
I have now been without Coca Cola for over 36 hours. I think this may well be the longest pop-free time I have had since I was 16. I wonder if people realise just how addictive this bloody stuff is at times...
I'm a person who needs my stimulants, nicoteine caffiene etc... my sugar intake is almost non-existent (though people who have met me may not believe that but it's true!) thus my sugar-shot comes from the fizzy stuff. Going back three years to when I was a chef I would drink up to 2 or 3 litres a day (yeh I know, I know) however now being in the rat race and working in an office I am suffering the outrageous slings and arrows of 'no exercise'. Thus I have put aside my two small cans of Coke a day (not a bad reduction from the gluttony of old) and rewound the aerobics tape.
*sigh...
Thirsty now.

Hmmm... scratches chin... was doubtful of the merits of this particular gem when purchasing, being female an' all that guff I had to make ashamed protestations and point the finger at the male of the species as he cowered behind the shelving of the local game shop.
Have now realised that despite the dubious delights of the skimpy-costumed and astoundingly well animated characters (jiggle dynamics which will probably never be equalled anywhere)... it's not that bad a game..
... now......if I could only get.....the controller.....out of my damn......hand..
I could go to bed..
Or not....

Those nice people at Powergen sent me a cheque for ninety quid today, it seems that they had me paying too much on my weekly payments for gas and electric. So I decided to have some 'me' things.
Dropped my nice funky coated zippo off at the engravers, which shall henceforth be enscribed with the legend ~ Flame of Udûn ~ ... heehe
Bought Taxi Driver on dvd for research purposes and am having a 'hairdo' this afternoon. I think I may get charged extra for teh amount of time it'l take them to get it uner control long renough to cut it.

Ghost World
Posted Feb 20, 2003
Finally got around to watching this after getting the dvd just before Christmas.
What a cracking little film, no sign of the disjointed and often irritatingly rambling style of Zwigoff's 'Crumb' and great performances from Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi. The unhinged guy in the Sidewinder Mart with the nun-chuckas reminded me so much of the kind of characters to be found in many small press comics such as 8 Ball or even Knights of the Dinner Table (even though most of it is set around precisely that).
The kind of wry observations on life that these comics excel at are so often overlooked by the film industry in its constant search for the next blockbuster and it's a good thing that there are actors such as Buscemi who are prepared to take risks in their roles and not just work for the big bucks. Though of course he does ocassionally and quite right too, who wants to starve?
I think this film struck a particular chord with me as looking at Enid was almost looking into an 18 year old mirror image of myself, not visually per se but her attitude and outlook.
I'd heartily recommend this film to anyone, worth renting if nothing else.
