Anything and everything I can get my hands on by JODI PICOULT. At the moment it's 'Harvesting the Heart'
Picoult's books have great storylines and characters, but perhaps the most exciting thing about them for me is that they have a depth which is really breathtaking at times.
Picoult focusses on moral and ethical dilemmas, examining issues that we are all liable to access at some point in our lives and showing us just how 'grey' the grey areas really can be.
Picoult could be accused of appearing cynical about the U.S. justice system in her books, particularly with the emphasis she places on lawyers 'spinning the truth'. I believe, however, that her aim is merely to show how every situation is open to personal interpretation. In Picoult's eyes, morality and ethics are therefore also subjectively interpreted.
Anyone else hooked on this author? Ax

So I'm off work with laryngitis.
Personally I feel fine, but I'm instructed to 'rest my voice' so can't go in as a large part of my day involves talking to people.
Which leaves me talking to my pc...and pondering
Do we talk too much in today's society?
Do we talk and talk but not really say what's important?
Do we talk to compensate for the fact that we have nothing of importance to say?
Do we talk to feel important..to talk ourselves up?
Do we talk to talk ourselves out of situations?
Do we talk to hear sound? to make ourselves feel less alone
...no talking going on here...

Night time antics

I wish!!! It's currently 2.35am and I can't sleep because of a heavy cold which has moved to my chest.....needless to say I wish it wasn't coughing thats keeping me awake!
I wonder if anyone else is actually awake at this godforsaken hour and reading this. Isn't it just horrible when you really want to sleep but for whatever reason can't? Even my 2yr old son is asleep...whats the betting that I'll just get to sleep and he'll then wake me up with cries of 'mummy...drink...mummy' or something equally heartrending. How do they do it?!
Last night he managed to wake me up at 4am with exactly those words. Needless to say, being the dutiful and devoted mother I dragged myself out of bed and downstairs to fetch him the said drink. On entering his bedroom and holding out the drink to him I was greeted with a little giggle and a shake of the head. Through my zombie like state, I registered that it had all been a big game to get mummy out of bed and doling out attention.
Suffice it to say I won't fall for that one again.....or will I?!!!!
