to keep and bare arms
Posted Feb 16, 2003
this was on a conversation forum and i found it a rather interesting argument:
Does the American Constitutional right to keep and bear arms apply only to fire-arms? Or does it apply to other arms, such as tanks, rocket launchers and missiles? Does it apply to so called weapons of mass destruction? Could an American claim a constitutional right to stockpile Anthrax or mustard gas?
I'm not trying to start a silly argument; there are some real issues here. For example, if there is not a Constitutional right to keep and bear all weapons, if there are restrictions on some weapons, how can there be a constitutional argument against restrictions on fire-arms? And if there is a constitutional right to keep and bear all weapons, then why isn't every American really scared? (Never mind the international implications of an American constitutional right to stockpile mustard gas in your garage.)
i made the point that the constitution just states that the right to keep and bare arms can not be infringed upon. this would mean that congress can make no law regarding this and that it would be up to local governments.
which brings the next point up, and this is only really directed at my school friends: what is the law here?
it is typical that a law regarding something is not made until it is seen as a problem (someone does it). meaning that until someone had a stockpile of weapons of mass destruction they would not make a law against it...just a tad scary, is it not?
on a lighter note:
it snowed! minimally, but it did...it was nifty. alright, i go now.

everything
Posted Feb 14, 2003
well i just read lewis's stuff. it's all so true it freaks me out. really really badly. and i discovered my personal philosophy on everything: everything is trying to get away from everything while still fitting into everything and not be excluded from everything. everything is the void, which i believe a lot of people can say they are afraid of the void of something. for example, the void of not being liked. that's a common one with folks my age.
hmmm...i suppose i should do my philosophies on other stuff, and just so the people i have talked about this to before, it has changed.
life: if fun. it should be enjoyed to the fullest. and who cares if you go quite broke? really, our society is so messed up...
universe: wow it's big. i really would like to go out in it. and we should find stuff out about it
yes must be off

science
Posted Feb 14, 2003
now you know what bugs me to no end?
science class. not like the actual subject. that is fine and dandy. but my teacher...!
today we happened to be discussing boyle's law. now if you don't know what this is, it is (simply put) that when you decrease the amount of volume for a gas and none of the gas is taken out, the gas will become more crowded. so then, of course, a few people aren't listening. these people happened to be guys. she talked to them with an air of authority, something like this:
"now boys, i'm gonna tell you what i tell my sons everytime. i should know, i raised 4, well no 2, but i have 4 boys of my own. but some day, some girl is going to come up to you, and she is going to say: (she says this in a mocking tone, as if she had never actually done this) 'honey, the car is making a funny noise! what's wrong with it?'
and it would be nice if you would just have a basic idea of what to tell them then."
now, something else ladies and gentlemen, she was explaining how cylinders work, and the way the pistons work, and what this has to do with science.
i am a girl, and i found this rather amusing. but she was explaining pistons and cylinders for crying out loud! perhaps i am just lucky that my dad explains these things to me. perhaps though, they should already know this. i mean, they are almost old enough to drive, they should already know the basics of how their car works. or-i am sorry to say, but it is the truth- the mechanics will squeeze all the movey they possibly can out of the poor little wretches. they do that all they can, but if you know what's wrong they can't. and so, i end this entry with a message: know what you are working with when you are going to use something. it really helps.
