Hi Mike
I dearly love a man with history - some time I will tell you about my father who had as complex a life story as yours. A friend of mine once asked me 'what kind of clergyman is it who has tattoos?'
The reason I came over is that I sympathise with your frustrations about the restrictions on the Edited Guide, as do a lot of other researchers here.
There are already several debates about creating a parallel guide - currently being referred to as the Underguide.
A good starting point for these conversations is here: A943670
There is also an MSN group discussing the subject here: http://groups.msn.com/TheH2G2Underguide
Come on over and join the debates. Unfortunately they are scatterd all over the place. We need to make a list of the threads, really.
All the best, and welcome to h2g2

(well it is a little disingenuous of me to refer to myself as a girl, but a middle-aged ratbag called Ben doesn't have *quite* the same ring to it, does it?)

Good to meet you Ben! Are you really dressed in drag?
My view is that underground stuff will always be there. It's healthy.
But for the moment I want BBC h2g2 to rethink some of its attitudes, widen the scope of things, repent and relax hardline rules, create new equal status Guide Sections such as New Creative Writing, Poetry, Rants & Raves (decent, coinstructive & edited).
Do, I beg of you, come and look at my 'Douglas Adams Versus h2hg Editorial Policies' entry now transferred to the Editorial feedback section - and ask your known fellow rebels to view and discuss.
This transfer is explained by my most recent posting under Peer Review, which I will delete in the not too distant future - as soon as I find out that a proper discussion is taking place, and also how to delete things!
Many thanks for your input!
Yours,
Mike

Not in drag! Ben is short for my given name and has been, woman and girl, for all my life.
Deleting entries is easy, but deleting posts is very difficult - the concept is that the backlog remains here to us for ever and a day.
I read your entry, and agreed with it. Do follow the links I gave you, and check out the conversations hanging off them. I am subscribed to most of the active conversations on the subject, and so are Subcom Deidzoeb and GTBacchus, so checking out our recent conversations lists will take you to more of them. Though I am a talkative bugger, and am subscribed to a lot else besides.
Your vision is our vision, as near as dammit, so check out the backlogs. We are a friendly but opinionated bunch of subversives.
All the best
B
