and a warm welcome to h2g2. That is an exotic past you have. From apprentice friar to PR consultant?

I have barged in on your homespace after seeing the entry you put in peer review about editorial policy. I won't go into all the reasons for the editorial policy regarding the official edited guide here - there's been a lot of discussion over this with people, myself included, trying to argue for a wider scope within the edited guide. If you want I can give you links to the relevant threads so you can read the arguments yourself. To the best of my knowledge the policy hasn't changed in principle since the days when Douglas Adams was still here and still in charge, although I think it is being more strictly applied lately.

What I came to say is that there is a group of researchers looking at the possibility of starting a parallel 'alternative' guide which would cater for good entries that are excluded fron the edited guide. The intention is that it would eventually become part of the official structure of the site. There are many good writers and good articles on h2 that don't get proper support as things are. I think, if you read Douglas Adams' words, he did indicate that the site would adapt and develop as it grew, as the needs of the community here grew. I think this is one of those developments. Anyway, if you are interested there is a draft proposal at A928929. And links to conversation threads on this topic.

I'm not recruiting - I know it sounds like it - just providing directions to where you can find discussions on a subject you are obviously interested in.

I hope you enjoy h2g2, and are not deterred by the dobermen - they're poodles once you get to know them. Well most of them smiley - winkeye.

Thanks Wazungu,
Welcome to my homespace, anytime.smiley - smiley
I'm not sure about an alternative site/guide. It would be like giving up on the original.
I do think, however, that there should be sub-sections of the main h2g2 site (well labelled on the Front Page) for "Creative Writing/Fiction", "Poetry" and whatever else seems logical.
BTW, what do you think about 'Anonmity'? (See note to myself above, or around about here somewhere.)
Yrs,
Mike

I think we, (I shouldn't really say 'we' we're not a group, just a number of h2g2'ers who have had similar thoughts to yours), see the Edited Guide, the part of h2 that you were being told your entries didn't fit, as a sub section. And the 'Underguide' would be another sub section, also labelled on the front page. You never know, perhaps some time in the future they might merge. There's nothing to stop that happening. 'We're' working within what seems attainable.

I have to say however that there is an argument for an Edited Guide sub section - it is set up to be updatable. So over time an entry can both gather the knowledge of many researchers and stay up to date. That's not appropriate for personal viewpoints. Collaborative entry writing was always a goal of the site.

The main h2g2 site is almost completely free of guidelines (just the House rules). I can live with the EG and the UG being sub sections of that.
I found your journal about anonymity. Interesting question - I replied on your journal thread.
