Eco- Dogbad?
Posted Mar 15, 2003
Time was when I couldn't get from the bedroom to the bathroom without a car or a motorbike!
Things have changed with the accident and I no longer drive. I can't walk a lot and I get a bit confused with bus and train so how do I get about without other peoples help?
Big brother tried me out on a pedal tricycle three years ago. I managed a couple of hundred yards on it and then felt so ill that I had to sleep for a while. Over the years I persisted (self pride there!) and I managed to move on to better trikes and bikes as well. Two wheels isn't always wise as I have balance problems so I need a trike as well.
Anyway... I can sometimes ride quite a way, 20 or so miles in a day slowly, and the one thing that I notice more than i would have done before is how much the car has screwed people and places up!
I heard the boss of a big supermarket on TV a few days ago saying that "About 60% of the U.K. population live within reasonable driving distance of a supermarket" What the hell happened to towns and markets and individual shops? I can't get a bus to my home from the town as there is a one way traffic system to ease the flow of car traffic. We are going to have to change things and I would like to start it off and say out loud.... "KILL THE CAR!"
I know I waffle to say very little but I would be happy to hear from anybody who agrees with me.
