By coincidence I read an interesting story last night which I would recommend to everyone, particularly in the context of recent events. The story is "Franchise" by Isaac Asimov, published in 1955 and likely rather difficult to find.
Not to give two much away, the story is set during the lead up to the U.S. election in 2008. The story is very much about computer projections of winners before the voting is complete and the importance of secret ballots and unimpeded excercise of the franchise by all voters.
If you can find it, I think it is worth a read.

I remember that story, from back in the 1980s. Bizarre! Good story, though.
