I missed that thread. But I'll stand up for the plaintiffs in the case. But that thread has been dead for two weeks, so I won't do it there.
Lloyd's of London received a premium to insure the ship. The premium was an exspence for the owners of the slaves, and so, was taken from the owners' profit from their traffic in humans. Lloyd's did not have to pay out on that particular risk, so, the premium went into revenue. A portion of that premium one assumes went to shareholders, a portion was reinvested in the company. In any case, that premium increased in value, one would assume, since Lloyd's is bigger now than it was then. So, it is fairly safe to conclude that there are shareholders of Lloyd's who have unwittingly but directly benefited from the trafficking of those humans on that ship. It is also reasonable to assume that the descendents of those trafficked humans are not in the same situation that they would have been if the trafficking had not occurred. A court has been asked to address and perhaps redress this situation. If certain individuals think this is ridiculous then they should be prepared to accept the consequences of hasty dismissal of the judicial systems of the world.
If we are not willing to redress past crimes through civil and criminal courts and through our legislatures, then we will have nothing left to follow but the example of the Israelli occupied territories.
