We may have something in common
sisterphonetica Started conversation Jan 13, 2003
Hello,
I just registered yesterday (or the day before). Just thought I'd pop in to see what the place is like and I see someone with practically the same name as me!
I have a (e) where you have none! Always happy to meet a fellow Swab(e)y cos there's not a lot of us about. Where you from?
Catch you later perhaps?

Hi Sis Phon
You've probably given up on me by now! I've had a bit of a nightmare with the login and password thing so I have only just got your message today.
I am a Lincolnshire Swaby by marriage, the line has been traced back about 10 generations to a little village called Marsh Chapel (near Grimsby) although the branch of the family I joined is in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.
I love cats too!

Hello!
I don't give up that easy!
My grandfather Swabey was an orphan and we can't really go back any further/farther (which) than that. The census wasn't much help, but I suppose I could keep trying. My Swabey side is from Ilford in Essex.
Oh and my oldest friend just bumped into me in the supermarket the other day and called me by my oldest nickname - you guessed it, Swabey Baby!
Cats Rule!

Hi
Glad you got my message, I've been checking!!
Another SwabyBaby, cool! I got so fed up with the mispronounciation I started to tell people Swaby rhymes with Baby and before you know it...
The family history information I have came from GOONs, you may be able to get some more information via that route. Alison Powell (who is from the Swabey line) runs the GOONs Swaby and variants One Name Study. I had contact with her this time last year and she provided me with loads of information, drop her a line, she's easy to find.
I am working towards being mad cat woman when I get old. I shall have a shopping bag on wheels to ram into peoples ankles while pretending I am deaf and going home to my house full of kitties. I've got a way to go as I only have 2 cats at the moment and not even a grey hair yet (although it is hard to tell under the purple and black)!!

I think we're related!
I have two cats too, not a grey hair and purple and black hair too - this is getting spoooooky.
Have been in touch with Alison, but she couldn't really get any further than me.

It's a shame Alison couldn't help. I can't get anywhere with my maiden name.
I wonder what else we have in common? Tell me about your cats? My girls are tortoise shells from the same litter, they are 6 yrs old and named Ceefor and Anda.
Basically I'm a vegetarian, scorpio, hippy, animal lover with gothic tendancies who is drawn to waifs and strays(but not necessarily in that order!)! My Hubby and I have given a home to cats, rabbits, fish, rats, mice and even a spider over the years - all no longer wanted by their owners. We are on the look out for a ginger Tom kitten and I have a feeling I may get closer to my mad cat woman goal. If we find more than one that needs a home I just know we are not going to be able to say no!

Right SwabyLady (I rename you thusly)
Cats - two:
Zoretta the Glamorous with the Magnificent Flaps (7) glossy black with white apron and paws, and a funny wee white bit on her nose and chin. She is clumsy and pretends to eat things when it's dinner time. Has a penchant for bread, particularly cucumber sandwiches.
and
Shaka B Devotion (6) wee mottled tortie thing who sings to her catnip catfish every night after I turn out the lights. She eats everything apart from wasabi and mustard and never ever stops purring.
Diet - Vegan (for about 8 years now I think)
Lifestyle - ex goth! ex raver! Completely wrapped up in music (and the interweb)
Oh and I used to have a ginger tom called Dennis (sorely missed)

There you go again, being freaky so much in common MadCatWoman! I used to have a ginger tom who went by then name of Maximillion SmeeCat. He was my baby substitute and as such was spoiled rotten, given pride of place on the bed/sofa and was such a mummies boy it was ridiculous! Then one day, at the tender age of 2, he met with a 4-wheel drive with essential bull bars that enable it to cross the immensely rough tarmac terrain between house and school and it was an incredibly unfair fight.
Ceefor is a 'real' cat and follows all the stereotypical behavior that cats are supposed to follow ... she obviously read the manual. She's an excellent mouser but I do wish she wouldn't bring live catches into the house! Her favorites are mice and frogs.
Anda is my soul mate. She mooches around being suspicious of everyone, chooses a few individuals to pledge her undying loyalty to and drinks vodka and lime whenever the opportunity arises. She even walks to heal when I am going to the shop.
Even my hubby is a cat (a Leo with a long black mane) but he doesn't catch mice and frogs although he does tend to curl up in the most uncomfortable looking positions and go to sleep immediately. I am so jealous in my insomnia!!

Yet another thing in common!!!
Are you interested in astrology or anything like that? What star sign are you? I tend to be a skeptic until proven otherwise but I do find it all fascinating.
MadCatLadies!
sisterphonetica Posted Mar 13, 2003
Sorry, but no. Astrology just isn't my thing at all.Load of bobbins if you ask me.
MadCatLadies!
sisterphonetica Posted Mar 13, 2003
That came across a bit curt. My star sign is Aries but I really don't go in for that sort of thing at all.

SwabyBaby Posted Mar 14, 2003
I used to hold that opinion until someone I didn't know calculated some of my chart and scarily knew things about me I never admit to anyone!!! I don't believe in predictions, they are bobbins!

Hope you feel better soon.
I'm just moving into a much needed health kick (the first for 2 years) so I hope to be feeling great in a few weeks. I ache lots at the moment though.
Healthkick?
sisterphonetica Posted Mar 19, 2003
Everytime I go on a healthkick I get ill!
*munching on organic almonds...*
Healthkick?
SwabyBaby Posted Mar 20, 2003
Why does that happen? I gave up smoking a few yeas ago and ended up having 3 weeks off work with chronic bronchitus... I started smoking again and that sorted it!!!
