Heimdall (who used to be Spread Your Wings)

I wrote this poem as a "pair" poem for William Blake's "The Little Black Boy"

The wind was blowing through her hair,
And bare feet stood firmly on wet grass.
She raised sturdy hand up in the air
Then pointed at the sun and said:

“My dear son, some day the time will come
When we will have to stand before the Lord,
And that will be the age of Blithe and Glum,
And Saviour will judge us with the sword.

“It matters not if you are black or white,
For every man is equal in his eyes.
The beams of love he gives away are bright
As morning sun that rises in the skies.

“The colour of thy skin is nothing but a glove
That wraps around your soul inordinately tight,
But what inside is brought from up above -
A precious gift as startling as the Light.

“It teaches us to stand against the mighty flow
Of bitter sorrow, misery and grief,
But our souls still have that merry glow,
Which keeps in our hearts belief.”
