Hi Jofrog

I was having this whole conversation with you and my whole posting just disappeared, so lets hope you don't get it twice.

The Bash went down really great. There were about 30 people here, and just as we sat down to eat, it poured with rain, so you can imagine the chaos, everyone rushing inside, plates, platters, glasses, and no sooner had we finished eating, the sun came out. Murphy's law smiley - monster !!!!

I live in a small farming community called Mooi River. Mooi means beautiful in our second language which is afrikaans - derived originally from the Dutch settlers in 1820 or there about, my history is a bit down the drain now, been out of school far too many years !!!

Anyway, Mooi River is about 350miles from my Da's house, and he lives in Johannesburg. We go south east towards the coast, approx 100miles inland from the coast, very long boring drive through a very dry part of the country, but the highway is very good, double lanes, with 3 Toll gates between us - cost a fortune !!

I work on a stud farm doing book keeping, have my own computer, but not online unfortunately, only a few of us are connected to the net, and I'm not one of the lucky ones. Will try and post you a short note now and then from home, as it's really great to have a new friend. As a child, I always had penfriends, and this is sort of the same thing, just that we don't have to wait for the post anymore - just a push of the button. Anyway, better not go on too long, you'll probably fall asleep if I do!!! I'll have to learn an easy way to do these smiley's, getting tired of exclaimation marks!!

Have a great New Year, and I can see we're both going to hit that very bad four letter word D-I-E-T in 2003

Goodnight

What a shame about the rain, yes I bet it looked quite funny to see the big scramble smiley - biggrin But, It sounds like it was a big sucsess otherwise.
I dont expect you are able to get see your father and other family members? too often....being so far away, It must have been great for you all to get together.

I shall have to look S.A up on the atlas to find out where abouts the places are, its nice to have a reference point to friends!

I live in the county of Kent which is in the SE of england, and, also about 20 miles from London.
Our town is quite small, and everyone knows everyone, and lot of people are related to each other.

It would be really nice to hear from you, whenever you can, I have quite a few web pals throughout UK and a couple other countrys. 'You cant have too many friends, Is my motto!'

I find speaking to other people fascinating, And I was very interested in hearing about your 'world'!!
Mooi river, Is a Lovely name!

Well, I had better end or you will be asleep! smiley - laugh

Hope the drive home goes well, Take care,

Hope the D. I. E. T Yes it is a bad four letter word smiley - yuksmiley - sorry goes well!

Hi JoFrog

Didn't get your message until today, things were too hectic on the day we left my dad, but managed to sneak onto the net at work quickly. Unfortunately we won't be able to speak as often as i would like, but a quick sneak here and there is better than nothing!!

THere go the exclaimation marks again, will need time to work out these smileys. How was your New Year ? We went camping, believe it or not, packed a tent, gas lamps, sleeper couch/mattress, food, etc and had a whale of a time. My kids really enjoyed themselves, open space(like we really need it), living in a farming area, but a house is definately different from living outdoors, but is was great fun. Spent 4 night waway, just came in for work and went back out to camp and sleep, kids stayed there with our friends and their kids.

My brother-in-law lives in the UK Woking, Berkshire, near you anywhere?

Anyway got to go, said it will be quick, will speak again soon

Hi Tanya,smiley - laugh

Oh you lucky things, Camping for new year, great! smiley - biggrin We have snow here at the moment.....Not very often we get any here, so the kids are all quite excited!! (and me too)! It is pretty but it's mighty cold brrrrrrr!!

We do have a tent and go camping sometimes, but with British weather its not very often. I Do really enjoy it though!

How many kids do you have? I have two sons, a daughter and a grandson of five.

Woking is about a two hour drive from us I guess, Most of that is probably due to traffic congestion!!

It was very nice to hear from you again Tanya, Yes once in a while is better than not at all isnt it!!

Well,Bye for now, Take care Tanya, And I hope you have a chance to enjoy another camping trip soon.

Hi Jo

Got on the line again, got lucky twice in 1 week, the girl whose computer I am on is on leave, so I have to do a few things here.

Hope you enjoyed the snow, although it gets really cold when it melts. My sister-in-law says you guys all have underfloor heating so don't really feel it, but you have to go outdoors sometime !!! We had snow here in July, it does not snow too often though. I've been in Mooi River for 11 years, and have had snow only 3 of those years (in the garden) and only 1 day in each year too. For us snow is a miracle, there are lots of people in SA who have never seen snow. In fact I was 32 the first time I saw snow and was able to touch it too. We live very near a great mountain range called the Drakensberg "the Berg" as we refer to it, and it snows on the Berg very regularly, but quite high up, and far out of reach, so to get snow in town is really great. The area we live in is relatively cold compared to the rest of the country, we do hit the odd minus's in winter, quite often too, but I enjoy the cold.

I have two kids, very young, had them late in life so to speak, Kimberley(daughter) is 7 in May, and Cameron(son) is 4 in June, so they're still around the apron strings, but they keep me young!! Do you have an e-mail address, can send you a picture of the kids, also more private to chat sometimes.

Time to go, speak to you soon,
tANYA

Hi Tanya,smiley - biggrin

Good to hear from you again. The snow has almost gone now, The kids have all had a great time in it!!

We have radiator's for heating, but, as you say, we have to go out in it some time!! I to do like snow. Built a snowman with my grandson in garden other day.

I was quite surprise to hear that you have snow, even occasionally there! Shows how ignorant I am about S.A.!!

Your children have lovely names, Mine are.....Jay the eldest 31, Ryan 28 and Caz (my baby) Ha Ha!! Is 24, she is mum to my grandson Malachi 5. (I sound so old when I say their ages, But, I had Jay when I was just 17) Kids do keep you young I find that with Malachi.

Yes, I have e-mail: [email protected]
It would be very nice to see photo of your children! And chat.

Well, Speak again soon, take care. Jo smiley - peacedove

Hi..........

Post 10

CatLady

Well hello Jo

Managed to get on line at last!! Was begining to get the DT'S
not much news, back at work trying to settle down after the Xmas break, finally getting there. Kids back at school, Kimberley started her first class in "BIG" school. Since the new government took over in '97, the starting age for school was changed from 6 years to 7 so she will be 7 in May and thus could start school this year. VERY late compared to your starting age, my niece starts at 4 so she will get to complete her whole schooling career before her older cousin. But at least some education is better than none at all, though I don't know what stead it will stand her in , in the international world. My little chap is turning 4 this June, and is still in the lowest class at playschool, I was hoping that since this is his second year they would push him up to the next class, but to no avail, as he would be finished playschool a year before he can start "big" school. Really silly, but this is Africa as they say.

Have had really sunny weather (eat you heart out!!) Packed a picnic basket and went up to the berg yesterday with friends. Really beautiful, the road takes us right to the top of the mountain, and you can see for miles, very far away, and very far down. There is a very posh camp site there, mainly for tourists, international and from the rest of SA. Too close to home for us, only an hours drive! Got sun burnt, serves me right, the sun is very hot here, we need to use a factor 30 suntan lotion now a dys, compared to when I was young, and a 16 was the highest, and only for the face, a 5 was used for the body. There really is a lot of truth in this global warming that we hear about all the time.

What have you and your family been up to. Will try and get back on soon, but until then cherio, and be well

Hi Tanya,
I am green with envy, It's cold wet, windy and miserable here!!

Your country sound very beautiful! There are some very nice places to visit here too of course, Yorkshire, a northern UK County has some particularly lovely spots and views. We also love going to the Norfolk Broads, a really beautiful labyrinth of canals.

We have not really been up to a great deal I dont like winter at all! I tend to Hibernate till the warmer weather comes.
But, I dont think I could cope very well with the sort of heat you have either!!
It is worrying global warming is destroying the Ozone layers, what will it be like in 20 yrs time??

I used to look forward to having our Grandson Malachi one day every week but since he started 'Big'school in September this is not now always possible. I miss that!
Yes, our kids start usual start at 4 or 5, 6 or 7, is late!
But, as you say some better than none!!

I did a spot of decorating, last week. My computer den, (The spare room)!
It has gone ok I think!!

Hope you found my E-mail address ok? I had better get going few things to do, nothing interesting just chores washing etc........I look forward to speaking again Tanya, Take care.
