i have been advised to speak to u by spook he thought you may be able to answer my enquiry
i want to produce a table about 1000 cells by 900 cells 1x1 cell size in which i can choose the colour of each cell and need to be in a large block im hoping to produce some artwork using this grid any ideas ?

1000 x 900 is very large. Not everyone will have that width on their browser windows. You might be better off limiting it to 640x480 or even less. I do have a couple of large TABLEs on h2g2 but not that large.
Leaving the size aside, there are a lot of methods you could use. some years ago I started by defining a table manually. Graph paper could be used to plot out any complex image and then the numbers could be typed in. Since then I have written a program to automatically generate TABLE art from a BMP (Windows/OS2 bitmap) file. Almost any graphics software can be used to draw an image and save it as a BMP. Someone else on h2g2 has written a javascript utility offsite to allow you to set cells to different colours and then output the image as a TABLE.
So you need to decide which of these methods best matches your existing skills and tools. Note that although my software could handle a TABLE of the size you claim you want, the text to produce it would make a page unbearably slow to load and might even crash a PC browser or digibox.
