Hi SEF....

Would you mind taking a look at A759882 ..(one of my testing pages)..
I'm trying to put my Useful Links in an ..it looks fine..there are no errors showing..it just won't work....

I've lookerd at a few pages using ..can see no difference between theirs & mine..please..can you see why it won't work..

Don't worry about being embarrassed. You missed Mina putting on hat, dark glasses and pulling up the collar of her imaginary coat to shuffle onto the Guru forum when she got stuck over some formatting.

Firstly you missed the bit in the ITEM-LIST description where it tells you that the unique NAME must not contain spaces. You also put a U-number in as an H2G2 link instead of a BIO one.

Although you didn't ask, your other lists OL = ordered and UL = unordered will not work because you used IL rather than LI as the list item tag.

I haven't checked the rest yet.

Would you mind very much if I reported your page to Jim Lynn (and/or my fellow h2g2bugfinders). I could redo the contents or part of it myself instead. The reason is that the page was causing Jim's software to generate invalid output. My browser was coping with it but reported it as dodgy. Jim's stuff should probably have failed in a safer manner.

I meant your test page (I took a copy of how it was just in case you fixed it) but now I notice that your U-number page is also generating a warning and the test page still has one. My page and this conversation forum are not generating the same error. So it isn't consistently part of h2g2 output now. I think it merits some further investigation. It is just possible that my browser is out-of-date and Jim/you are merely using some new XHTML it doesn't like. That's why it might help to bring in the others as I would be checking against the w3 standards I'm used to using and have only one browser installed.

Sorted..it's working now....&..I've tided Testing up..got rid of the old obsolete 'things' there....

Still confused about your bugfinder question though..

That 'remove' was from ages ago..when I was here via digibox..I had an entry in peer review which I couldn't remove via digibox..Amy the ant was trying to help me remove..I was testing that link..

And the IL/LI was from way back when I did Wade Whimsies Guide Entry..

Just so anyone reading this knows..they're not recent....

OK now your test page is fine (apart from what looks like the already known self-closing LINK bug) but your PS is still generating the error. Unfortunately I didn't keep a copy of your page half-way through you fixing it but could still work on trying bits of the copy I did take and compare them with things on your main page too if necessary.

Rho is one of the bugfinders by the way. We're mostly harmless - honest! We've found quite a lot and reported the most dangerous ones directly to Jim. We're not very good at documenting them on our group persona page though.

The best thing I've read here..recently..though I can't remember in which thread..or by whom..(I'm also a lurker)..was..

"If you haven't made any mistakes, then you havent tried" (or simular)..

Doesn't stop me from feeling like prat though..couple of hours after getting Guru Badge..and *I* needed to ask for help....oh well..least I know the answer..if anyone else has the same problem....

Really, Emmily, it doesn't matter. There are far worse people spying on my space as well as the mostly harmless ones like Rho and Manda (used to be stalking me but hasn't been seen recently - about which I have a slight clue but nothing conclusive). You might almost just as well have posted on the Guru forum as Mina did. Go and have a look for her thread - it might cheer you up.

Actually I found this thread through lurking around Emmily's personal space, after lurking around various friends lists...

No, I meant the guru forum on h2g2. Though you should have had the email by now. Sometimes BBC stuff gets held up internally by 24 hours or so.
